Sick- will they cancel my surgery
RNY on 07/18/12
I hope you feel better. I had to deal with a canceled sergery myself because my Dr wanted me to finish my antibiotics that I was on for lyme before the sergery. I really hope your sergery will not be delayed. If I were you I would take yourseld to a walk-in clinic and try to get something to clear it up. Have you tried over-the-counter meds? Also, make sure you call your sergon. Trust me, I know how scary the possibily of a canceled sergery is....it was devestating for me at least after going through a 16 month process to get it. Sending positive vibes your way! Let us know how you make out!!
Try some Sudafed (the kind you have to get at the counter). That should open your ear canal up and let it drain. Make sure you stay hydrated. Praying for you!

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!
I've twice had an infection right before surgery. In both cases I chose to go through with the surgery. The first one was an ear infection. I saw a doctor after the surgery and got antibiotics but it was one of my worst ear infections ever. Afterwards I wasn't sure it was worth it. But it was so conveniently scheduled that I didn't want to change it.
Then fast forward just four months and I had a breast lumpectomy/biopsy scheduled. I was bit by one of my mice, but it didn't break the skin, didn't even get through teh top layer like some scratches leave behind a white debris of disturbed dead skin. I always took mouse bites seriously, but this one was more of a nibble than anything. Nevertheless, I still got an infection.... my pinkie finger got swollen and red. I didn't want the surgery postponed because I just HAD to know if I had cancer. So I didn't mention it to the surgeon until the day of surgery. Since it was my hand, and they were working on my breast, they didn't think it was a big deal. It did need serious medical attention (it was badly swollen, with angry red lines running up to my wrist). The doc did order a pre-emptive course of antibiotics pre-op instead of waiting until postop. The worst part about that was that they put the automatic BP cuff on that arm, and the increased pressure caused my swollen hand to swell to amazing sizes, so ALL the skin cracked and sloughed off over the next few days, it was very painful. They ex-rayed it and found the bone was cracked and that was why it was as bad as it was.... they said the infection and swelling might have been incidental to the mouse bite.
So....way more info than you wanted. Good luck.
