8 month post-op appt and diabetes remission
Today was my 8 month post op appointment with my surgeon. He said my labs were great with the exception of my ferritin level. It was lower than last time and even then it wasn't great. It was 37. So I will get better about my iron supplement. My D was higher than last time but still low. It was 35. So I will get better about my D3. Everything else looks fantastic.
Most fantastic was my a1c level being 5.9 and being told that my diabetes was in remission. When I found out I had type 2 diabetes it was 10.5 and then after a couple of years later still unmanaged at 8.5+. I'm honestly more excited right now about the a1c level than the weightloss (not that I don't LOVE that I have lost weight)!

I'm in the same boat. I did this to help my diabetes. It has been out of control for about 9 years since I had my daughter. My highest A1C was over 14, then got it down to 11.4 last one before surgery was 10.1. My sugars have been so good since surgery I can't wait to see what my next one will be I don't think it will be perfect yet but that's what I"m going for in the long run! Way to go! Keep up the good work!
Remission is the right word about diabetes. Once you have diabetes, it's always there. But lose the wt and eat right and it goes into remission and you don't need most of the meds, if any. In regards to your D: get some of the 50K IU dry D3 from vitalady.com . 35 is less than half of the 80-90 levels you really want. I'd begin by taking 3 or 4 of the 50k IU dry D3 per week. I went through this, and it took almost 6 years of increases to get my D up. Labs last month were at a 104, and that was using one of the 50K IU per day. Labs about 16 months ago were a 65, and that was on 4 of the dry D3--taking them at that dosage for over a year. Each patient is different, but you're aware you numbers are low normal. My bariatric doctor and I discussed this about 2 weeks ago. She says the current scale for D of 30 as being low isn't very accurate--she considers 50 as the lowest you'd want for D. And she prefers D levels of 50-100, so she really had no objections to my 104. You can always adjust your dry D3 dosage based on your next labs--you'll likely have another test in a month or two due to low D levels. DAVE
