Daily Atheist Quote
What's a Victor Newman?
*Googles*
You're an old fictional white man?
"
Victor Newman was born Christian Miller on March 7 1947, in Buffalo, New York. He was put in an orphanage by is mother, Cora Miller. He left the orphanage and started to work his way through to victory, becoming one of the world's most wealthy tycoons. He changed his name to "Victor Newman", Victor standing for Victorious and Newman standing for new-man, as he was a complete new man.[8]"

That's WHO he is.
WHAT he is...a force to be reckoned with. A no holds barred, ruthless sonofa***** who ALWAYS wins. In another life, that's WHAT I'd be.

Ye****ler’s men, Chairman Mao’s men, Stalin's men, I could go on and on. They were led and commanded by atheists. Atheists have killed many many millions more people than Christians. So yes they were in foxholes because of atheists.

Are you taking the Crusades into account? Christians killed a BUNCH of people in the Crusades...
Just sayin...to be FAIR...I'm not 100% sure that statement is true.
(See now that's "Old Skool Debate Team" Nikki which means I probably need to mind my damn bidness!)

Look what happened during the Spanish Inquisition. If you did not believe in the Catholic church, you were put through torture and death. History has shown that many wars were holy wars and continues to this day over in the Middle East.
This conversation would be great on another site, just not on here. I was raised that religion and politics were very personal subjects and be careful of the company you bring this up to, because many have their own feelings and thoughts, naturally! I don't want to see any Romney/Obama quotes on OH either. It's a mess right now on Facebook because everyone has their political opinion and it's like if you don't believe in the party some people do, omg they will take your head off.
Anyway, it's been a great discussion and thank you to all who have had an input. Jane

Yeah, I agree. Implications about religious warfare and the like do not belong here.
But today's bible verse in particular had lots of relevance to me as a WLSer.
I run a blog called "Bariatric Foodie." It was my desire in starting the blog NOT to stand idly by as people struggled with their food and say "glad that's not me anymore!" I don't "bible thump" (as the saying goes) but I consider that blog "my ministry" or my gift that God gave me to share with the world.
My REASONS for doing the blog are my business, which is why I don't talk about them on the blog. The work is to provide people with ideas and inspiration to change their food lives. So like the cupbearer in today's quote, you can either sit idly by when people need help or you can help.
Conversely, I am guilty of that mentality when it comes to OH. Many times I do not respond to some posts where I have experience. Sometimes I feel like my words won't be understood or heard. Sometimes it's because I answered that question twice yesterday. Whatever the reason, I shook my head, was thankful I was past that point in my experience and kept on walking.
What does all this mean? That maybe I could work on being more compassionate but I'm human.
So...all THAT...is what I got from the verse. All of which I think is relevant to how I behave on and approach this board.
Bottom line: it's subjective. What's offensive to you may be part of what makes me...me.
I think the most we can ask of anybody is to be clear in subject titles and others to exercise their right not to open posts they don't want to read.

R(amen) Atheist posts always start a 5 page thread because it makes some of the religious folks here uncomfortable (Nik excepted).
I'm not sure anyone really gives a toss how you and any other non-religious folks feel when they post their prayer or bible quote stuff!! I rarely share my views on religion because I respect people's right to believe, and I have no interest in arguing the difference - this is usually not reciprocated however - as shown by this thread!
Kenny blocked me when I protested his anti-gay posts (which were particularly offensive) and I have blocked Vivien because she doesn't contribute anything to my day ... She is the only person I have blocked.
