So I had my appointment on Monday with my new surgeon for my revision from band to bypass. The surgeon was nice but we didnt really talk much about the surgery. I had previously called my insurance company and asked if my plan covered revision and they said yes. So the office lady told me she needed to talk to the insurance company and see what the stipulations on the revision were. I was praying that it wouldnt be that the band had to be damaged in some way ( I dont know if it is, I just know its not working for me) Well I got the call back from her today and she said that 1. I have had to had the band for at least two years ( Its been three) 2. I have to have documentation that I did what I was suppose to while I had the band ( I have the records from my old surgeon showing me coming in for fills and stuff) 3. I have to still be overweight (ummm why would I even want a new surgery if I wasnt lol) She said she is submitting it for approval today and that I should know in two weeks. She said she didnt see any reason why it would be a no. The only downer about the situation is that I have to have two seperate surgeries. One to remove the band then six weeks later he will do the bypass after my stomach heals. I thought I would be able to get them done at hte same time but whatever is safter sounds good to me. The office lady also said that according to the insurance company I wont have to do the phyc eval or the nut. She said all I would need to do is the blood work and ekg and chest xray. Just wanted to give everyone and update. I feel excited but I always have a feeling that things arent going to work out so lets all keep our fingers crossed that in two weeks I get good news!

It seems to me that meeting with a registered dietician (not a nutritionist) would be a very good idea, even if the insurance and surgeon's office don't require it.  I don't understand why the surgeon wouldn't want you to meet with an RD to make sure you understand the diet you'll need to follow with RNY, but even if he doesn't feel it's necessary, I think it would be in your best interests.

I'm glad to hear they should cover the revision.  Some surgeons will remove the band and do the RNY at the same time, others feel it's safe to do them separately.
