Kidney stones?
I'm freaking out. Seems like I get rid of one problem and develop another/ for the past week my doctors were under impression that I had a uti. Unfortunatly it wasn't clearing up. Now I have a right kidney with several stones and one stone is my tube in the process of passing.
My question is, I've been told its common after surgery, but have you had a similar problem and I'd so, what helped you get through it?

I havent even had surgery yet and i'm prone to kidney stones this isn't something im looking forward to
. The only thing you can really do is take pain meds until it passes or if they dont pass i've had to go to a urologist and have them surgically removed, also my urologist said to drink a glass of lemonade a day apparently the acid in the lemonade is suppose to break down the calcium if thats what your stone is made of and more likely than not it is.

It is my understanding that post op kidney stones are frequently associated with calcium carbonate use... which may be found in many multivitamins. Your calcium supplement should be calcium citrate, which many people are aware of. IF your stones are calcium, you should look at your multi, and possible switch to one without calcium in it if it vontains calcium carbonate.
I had a kidney stone a few years ago, well before my RNY. I feel for you as I was in excruciating pain as the stone moved, then had a raging UTI after. Keep drinking as much fluid as you can. Water is best, but really anything fluid is good.
Did they give you anything for pain?
Some people, for whatever reason, are prone to kidney stones. Sometimes there are meds that can help prevent them.
Once a stone is passed it can be analyzed to determine if it is calcium or cholesterol. From there the doctor can determine how to proceed.

Part of my post-op is taking a med called Ursodiol to help prevent gallstones. I am still in the crush all meds phase and it is very bitter. Actually I hate it, but pain is my worst fear so I try and keep it down twice a day. I am praying for you! I hope it passes soon.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I had the occasional Calcium oxalate stone prior to surgery. Not fun. I cant descrbe the pain i was in. After surgery, it became worse. At one point I was passing one stone a month. I'm still passing 1 every other month as of now. All you can do is drink lots of water. If its a uric acid stone it can be cured with meds.
