Annoyed with Servers

I am very specific when I go out to eat.  I figure I am paying I can get what I want, if reasonable.  If it's a place I've been to before I know what to expect and if it's a new place I can usually find the menu online and know what they have.  Yesterday, for example, we went to IHOP.  I looked at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted and I was very specific.  I asked for a senior omelet (I'm not quite a senior but I've never been refused), no batter in the eggs, fruit for the side and the pancakes (for my daughter).  No arguments.  Other places I will ask for my salad without croutons, dressing on the side, baked potato, butter and sour cream on the side, steamed vegetables, no sauce on the meat or for it to be on the side.  I always ask if there is a gluten free menu and tell them I am gluten intolerant, also reiterate that I need sugar free or it won't be a pretty sight (that usually gets them going).  I'm not unreasonable or unpleasant, I just know what I want and I ask for it.  I tip well for good service and if I get an argument I also reflect that in my tip and I don't go back again.  If they don't make accommodations I don't make a big deal, I just eat what I can, take home what I can and make a note to myself not to return.
As for them asking if I want a drink, it is much easier to say "Jus****er" then it is to argue about why I don't want anything.  If I am asked if the food is okay because I haven't eaten a lot I just reply that I'm not that hungry and ask for a box.  Again, no arguments.  I'm not paying for a debate on my eating habits, just a meal prepared the way I like.

I find if I don't specify the sides or only ask for one, the cooks in the back either picks one for me or doubles up on the one I ordered.  Not really the server doing this - but the cook.  I once ended up with like 2 lbs of mashed potatoes on my plate.  To avoid this, I try and substitute a salad for two vegetables or order two sides that are not starch veggies - like green beans and tomatoes.  Sometimes I ask for a broth soup instead of a side.  Soups make a good lunch for the next day. Salads get soggy so they don't keep well.  I usually take all the breads/crackers/chips home and cru**** up for the birds.

Wow it amazes me what people get upset about, really, seriously wrap the food and take it home but don't annoy the world because you were fat and needed surgery.

Just to back up here. I was never rude to the lady & gave her a $15 tip. She was a very good server. I was polite & everything. Its just when I say "no thank you, I can't eat all of that" to an additional side I would like for that to be ok without me having to explain that I had surgery. The majority of the time I don't say anything & just pick the 2 sides. I just hate wasting the extra food, because usually the sides are things that I would not be able to eat even if I took them home & no one else in my family would eat them. I'm just thinking its wasteful. I think its ok for me to get annoyed with that. I never cause a scene  or anything like that. In my head I'm just like why can't I just have 1 side & that be ok.

I order water and just leave it sit.  Someone at my table will usually ask if they can have it.

Depending on the restaurant we go to I will order:
cup of soup and side salad,
grilled or broiled meat with sides of veggies,
off the ala carte menu (one italian restaurant we frequent I order a side salad and a couple             individual meatballs in a bowl, skip the garlic bread)

I order veggies as my sides and take it home or order something I know my teenage son the bottomless pit will eat.  I usually eat 1/2 my meat or less and some of the veggies.  If my son or hubby doesn't eat the rest of my meal I get a to go box

Just ask for a glass of water...as for the food, I always ask the server to bring a to go box with my meal. I then box up what I know I will NOT be eating at the restaurant. If something comes with my meal that I can not eat, I ask if I can substitute for something else. If the answer is no, then I take it anyways...I have a husband and 3 dogs at home that love to eat all of the food that I cannot. lol

The world is not going to change because you had RNY surgery...you are the one that needs to learn to adapt!
