Follow protol as closely as possible.  Measure your foods. Only eat foods ok'd by surgeon. Take all supplements DAILY. Get a lot of protein daily--protein shakes, fish, chicken, shrimp--any food you're allowed. I'd also recommend you attend support group meetings, at least one a month. I go to 2 meetings a month at 6 years post op.  You learn from other post ops there, making your post op life easier DAVE

These are the things that I followed and I had no complaints about my rate of loss, few stalls and in fact lost too much and I'm now working on getting some back.
At least 100 grams of protein and 100 oz of fluids a day.
No sugar and no gluten.
That has been about it for hard and fast rules for me.  I tracked everything during the weight loss phase and while learning to maintain.
Other things that have been helpful have been to plan out my meals, keep portions to about 1/2 cup for the first year, avoid impulsive eating, not eating mindlessly such as sitting in front of the TV or computer with a bag of chips or whatever, work on whatever issues you may have that have contributed to your obesity, whether it is emotional eating, eating out of stress, compulsive over eating, food addiction, quantity addiction, slow metabolism, lack of activity, love of food and the taste of food, various combinations or any individual idiosyncrasies.  There is no one blanket reason for our weight problems.  I needed to be completely honest with myself and seek whatever help I could get.
This is a lifetime process and for me it is always changing.  Things that worked for a long time don't work any more and things I used to be able to do, I can't do any more and other things I couldn't do before I am now able to do.
