Fruits and veggies--when did you try them?
RNY on 08/14/12
I'm cleared for a regular diet, and I'm doing well with getting protein in between food and shakes. I'd like to start adding fruit and/or veggies into my shakes or as a side to help keep things moving. I did try sautéed summer squash, and it was fine. I guess I don't want to rush them, so I want to know when you started adding them back in? I'm really hankering for some collard greens with smoked turkey! LOL

I've been adding them in slowly in the last week. I started with canned (no sugar added) peaches and pears since they are so soft. Now that I know those sit fine, I can add them into foods. I'm holding off on berries because I was told no skin or seeds and those are really hard to de-skin or de-seed.
I've also tried small pieces of melon, those sat well too. As for veggies, I'm cleared for all. And I'm working on that too.
I know what you mean about getting things moving. Just adding a little fruit has helped immensely.

Start them slowly one at a time. I love veggies and I can't eat time with my meal usually because there is not enough room. So I usually have them as a snack it doesn't add to my protein but worth it. First I had cooked veggies like broccoli and peas then The first Fruit I had was watermelon, then I had a little cucumber, and, letticue.
I suggest you don't go overboard a bite or two will be a good amount to try your first time.

I rarely eat veggies. I still focus on protien first. And since I do that, I rarely have space for any veggies. I think I ate my first veggies at 3 months. I had broccoli but it mad my pouch fell overly stuffed. Same with mushrooms. I've had bell pepper and that sits better in my tummy.

Do it just like you would with a baby.. One at a time.. That way it's easier to figure out if one doesn't agree with you. Today I made southern green beans. Minced up a shallot browned some ham and then added chicken broth and the green beans.. Cooked it until everything was soft and yummy :) I still have some issues eating solid foods, it was the BEST thing I've had in weeks lol. I also got a little protein to bang :)
they have been on my plan since i moved to soft foods at like week 3 or 4. i eat fruits and/or veggies at every single meal or snack.
