I had my surgery the day after you. Don't feel discouraged. Have you tried walking 30 min. A day? And stick to your 60 grams of protein. Sometimes we lose inches instead of lbs.

How are you calculating that you only need 40 grams of protein?  The ASMBS recommends 1.1 grams protein per kilogram of ideal body weight, which works out to about half a gram per pound of ideal weight.  Unless your ideal weight is 80 lbs, you need more than 40 grams of protein!

I'm with Kelly on that question. I have been getting consistantly 70 grams and my 3 month blood work showed me as being low in protein. Now I'm aiming for 80-90 a day.

Which shakes were you using? You might help others by sharing.

I wanted to clarify someting. What do you mean by "30 veg." I get that you're supposed to have 70g protein (and that is do-able without shakes even though not all shakes are carb/sugar heavy). But I wasn't sure what you meant by the other part.

Carmen I'm confused. Your original post says to get 70g protein and in a later response you say 40g.

Don't worry too much about losing the shakes. I've been able to get adequate protein without them since my surgery. The low carb ones are a good option when I have flu or am otherwise not able to deal with solid food, but for the most part I just eat high protein food, vegetables, and high fiber carbs.

You're absolutely not a failure and you CAN do this. It's not an easy lifestyle change, but if you stick to the basic rules (protein first, no eating and drinking at the same time, taking vitamins, and getting some exercise) you'll be on the road to healthy weight loss.

Best of luck to you!

I was just told by my dietian about protein. Right now she doens't want me to focus on calories, protein just get the adjustment of eating 3 meals a day 1/4 of a cup and 70 percent protein and 30 percent veg.

And focus on water and excerise.

Once that gets done - then we can focus on other things.

So.. did the dietician give you suggestions?  Or she just criticized you for drinking too many protein shakes?
