After surgery chewing gum is a no-no.  Lots of water and sugar free fruit juice helps me!

Lots of post ops chew gum - can't see what's wrong with it?

I think it's a pretty disgusting habit unless you know how to chew with your mouth closed, but I don't think surgery should have anything to do with it ...

According to my surgeon, just like straws, it allows air to enter the pouch.  I was given a book
with a list of no-nos and all carbonated beverages are also there.

Not necessarily.  Just as some other foods, sodas, etc. are told they are no-nos by some NUTS and surgeons, others allow their patients to have them.  Straws to are another one that we see frequently.

I see this term quite a lot. How do you distinguish "head hunger" from actual hunger? How do you know that you aren't just hungry? Does it feel different? I don't experience this, so I am very curious about it. I get hungry now when I've waited too long between meals.

I can feel physically when I am hungry in my pouch and head hunger is when I am just cant get food off my mind, even if I just ate and I am full.

Oh, so it's just really wanting to eat, when you are not physically hungry.  Thanks for the explanation.

I have tried decafineed coffee, and drinking herbal teas, lots and lots of water, I am drinking over 100 oz of plain water a day.. dietian told me to stay away from crystal light, and sugar free items.

Only thing I am eating is 1/4 of a cup of 70% protein and 30% veg. NO SNACKING.

This is really hard.. mentally.

I guess I am lucky....we are supposed to do 3 meals 2/3 oz and 2 protein rich snacks daily...I do not have time to be head hungry...I spend too much time eating....
