having probs with solids
as of 9/14 i am in my 6th week post op and still having problems eating solids. my surgeon told me to keep trying for the next few weeks and if i still can't tolerate i might have to go back in and have my pouch widened...has anyone else had problems going to solids??? any suggestions??? i'm also down 47lbs!!
Congratulations on the weight loss :) For the first time its exciting to see the scale. I am a little over a month post op and I just have problems with certain foods. I know that my dr told me with each stage liquid, softs, and reg foods that if I had issues to go back to liquids for a few days. He said this gives your pouch some rest and then you can go back to trying solids again. I pray you don't have to have surgery again!!
i have noticed the problems i've had are with chicken and bread things...i'm thinking of trying other solid things..maybe chicken is just too dry right now...i know turkey and fish are softer and might work better for me right now....i hope!!! i do NOT want to go back in and have my stricture fixed!
How are you doing on sliders?
Liquid and solid are actually ends across a range of consistancy. Can you drink thick liquids?
Can you spoon soft things, like greek yogurt? Soft tofu?
Then move on firmer verions, like soft-scrambled eggs?
Try to sneak up on solids, rather than just chewing well.
I had a few items that didn't work well initially, but that I was able to work up to. Six weeks is still fairly fresh, I hope you're able to work it out without the pouch stretching. It doesn't sound like much fun.
Good luck!

How much of the solids can you get down in ounces? I am 4 months out and can only get 2.5oz down chewed real well. 30 chews per that is. Do you weight everything you try to eat? I was having problems because I thought I could eat as much solid food as I did soft food and that was not the case at all. I am told that as time goes by, I will be able to up the amount, but as for now even 2.5oz is sometimes more than I can eat and I end up throwing up. At the time you are out, I was still on soft food for 3 more weeks so you are lucky. Just a thought.
