Hi everyone...

I found out today that I'm not eligible for the sleeve as I have been diagnosed with Barrett's.... so I have now accepted the fact that I'll be getting RNY.

I have a lot to learn about RNY, I wonder how different it is from the sleevers.   I will be spending a lot of time reading through the boards and finding out more of what RNY'ers eat ongoing and what I have to watch out for..

Hope to meet others and learn from the vets.

My original surgery was the VBG and I think that is simular to a Sleeve.  After  less than 10 years I put all the weight back on.

I was revised to RNY this year. I am working at nor repeating my past mistakes. I also have Barretts. The Sleeve was never even talked about with my surgeon, but he does offer them.

Hi Bella,

Awww, RNY ain't so bad. We get to eat dirt once a week whether we're hungry or not.

Seriously though, I am really happy with this WLS. I basically can eat what I did before, but just a lot less of it. I've made choices to cut some things out of my daily diet, but only because I realized that they were what contributed to my obesity in the first place. As for the small amounts of food, I'm always happy after my meals, so it really is only an onlooker who doesn't know how satisfied I feel that has an issue. Vitamins and Supplements will be part of your day, every day, but I managed to work mine in easily with a plan. Just stick around, and you'll catch on fast to how we do things. One other thing, when reading about issues and problems, try to remember that happy people don't  complain a lot, so you won't see a good balance statistically in that regard.

Welcome!
Kat

I had the bypass on 9/10/12 and after reading your post you make me smile!! I want to be exactly where you are at. I follow the rules, this surgery was a revision for me, I had the lap band almost 3 years ago and lost 88 lbs. I did well with it until the complications started. I am very satisified with small portions, I am used to it.  I had a rough day yesterday 5 days post op RNY and thinking OMG what did I do. I had a lot of nausea and it was hard to get my liquids in. I also know that I will need to get my protein in and the thought of food was making me ill. I did so good with my band post op and want to do well. Please tell me this will subside and I will feel better!

Hi!  Hang in there ... I can't believe you had the surgery only a few days ago ... each day will get better!

One thing I have learned from reading on all the boards, drink enough water -- you don't want to get dehydrated... sip, sip and more sips  and walk

Hope to hear about your improvement!

Hi Kat!!

Thank you so much for the laugh as well as reinforcing what I hoped -- actually, it sounds better than the sleeve from what you have said.

Hope to talk with you more in the coming weeks!

Hi Scarlet!

Then I guess I'm in excellent company!   I was anti RNY also, but from everything I see -- maybe it isn't so bad afterall.

So sorry to hear you were ready to go and then sewed you back up .. how horrible to wake up to find out nothing!  Here's hoping it goes well this next time!

Thank you and we will have to keep in touch.

you will most likely like having the RNY done, it literally saved my life.  Do some reading on it, gather supports, and ask many questions :)

Nathan

P.S. at over 2 1/2 years out I can eat anything, the tool helps remind me to make healthy choices, and gives me portion control still.
