I gained like 20 pounds the summer i turned 8 and after that it just got worse. I'm so happy to have had RNY. I had to spend my pre-teen and teen years as a chubby/fat girl. I'm sure y'all know what that feels like.

Yep. I was even BORN big. 9 lbs. 3.5 oz. My mom had gestational diabetes back in the day when they weren't really sure how to prevent women with said condition from having huge babies! I wonder if there is any correlation between gestational diabetes and obesity (for the fetus, not the mom)? Hmmmmm...

Anyway yes, I was big all my life. I think this made my road a bit harder so far as WLS. I had no frame of reference for what healthy looks like on me because I'd never seen it!

I have to give credit to my parents, they really tried to help me with my weight, sent me to fat camp (upon my request), always made reasonably healthy foods, signed me up for every sport and dance classes. But I was always kinda a big kid. Weighed about 180 at about 11 years old went to fat camp lost 40 pounds. Then gained it all back when I moved. When I was 16 I was 220. Then it really started coming on when I got a job and a car went up to 260. Then I moved away for college lost 10 pounds by this time I lost all incentive to diet and exercise. Transferred schools and gained another 40. At 20 years old I weight 290 my highest ever weight. But I'm at 209 now!

Just another strong case for obesity being a disease... I am glad you had a strong support system as a child!!!

Best of luck with you continued success, sounds like you are doing great so far!!

I was a chubby child and teen. I was 14 when I started my yo-yo dieting. Every summer I would diet(reduced portions and my exercise was farm work) and lose 25-35 lbs, then gain it back over the school year. After college, marriage and moving away from home, I would gain more weight a year, and my diets were every other year.

Fat all my life to varying degrees.  Put on my first diet as an infant, when my pediatrician told my mom to water down my formula because I was gaining too much weight. Got down to a "normal" weight for my height in High School from anorexia/bulimia and exercise, but that didn't last all that long.  I feel so lucky to be able to have this "tool" to help me battle the bulge and hope that I never see obese again.
