Do most people have complications or not?

As most people have already said, the majority of us do not have complications. I was out of the hospital a day early, in 5-1/2 months my BMI has gone from 63.85 to 44.45 and I'm off so many of the medications I was taking before! My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner! Good luck to you on your journey!

I am 3 weeks out from surgery...I had my surgery at 1:00 on a Monday and was discharged the next day at 5:30....I have already gone through the pureed food stage and now on soft foods-and have not had any issues with that-plus getting in all my water and protein and vitamins.  I did have one bout with constipation that snuck up on me but once I got that figured out am back on the mend.  And after only being out 3 weeks, already off my blood pressure medicine!    I was really anxious before my surgery about all of the "what ifs"...and the best thing to do is what others have mentioned, stay off u tube, ask for support from OH, but trust in your doc-they wouldnt do the surgery if they didnt feel you would have good outcome.   Best of luck to you!

I have had zero complications in 9 months.  I am a slower loser than normal but my doctor assures me I'm ahead of the curve.  I've had funny little weird stuff like my sense of smell was heightened for a while.  I was cold all the time for a while.  A gurgly tummy.  I can't stand eggs now. But..I've never thrown up, dumped, had foamies, etc.  Once I chowed down a steak wayyyyy to fast and had to chew papaya/pineapple enzymes and it took care of the problem in 30 minutes.  I have since learned to be aware of chewing.

If you are considering this surgery use this time to get as healthy as you can.  Such as taking vitaimns now.  Not drinking when you eat. Learn to sip water all day.  All these things will help you recover faster and make the transition easier.

I've never seen a post topic of "I've had no complications....HELP!!". Or, in other words, this is a place to go for someone that needs help, encouragement or to share victories with others that understand and can share in those victories!

Go forward and enjoy..... soon you will be a vet that can offer advice and encouragement to those who follow behind you

I think the overwhelming majority do great , the hospital stay on the other hand can be a pain in the rump!! I ALWAYS recommend that someone stay with you at all times, to help you get out of beds , make sure your meds are brought on time and that you get good care.
My hospital stay was great at nights and bad for my full day , the nurse never even came in my room, my husband and daughter had to go get meds etc... also the second barium swallow was on a table that didn't move , my daughter had to insist that I go to the room I was in the first time, that was kind of a fight.
All of this had nothing to do with the surgery itself and I have had no complications , just regular questions about , constipation , how long pain lasts, and things like that. I have had NO PROBLEM drinking fluids or eating anything , I did have trouble with vitamins making me sick , finally figured out to take them right before I eat...duhhh

My RNY was a piece of cake -- everything went perfectly and the only pain I really had was from gas. Walk, walk, walk to help work that out. Also, even if you feel great, don't trick yourself into doing strenuous activity too soon. Overdoing it can lead to the formation of scar tissue, which can cause complications down the road. You'll do great!
