Dropping is Ol'School
RNY on 08/17/12
I was in line for a festival movie on Sunday and I stood up and turned to look at something when the friend I was with burst out laughing. I turned to her quizzically and she said, "Oh honey, you are going to HAVE to buy some new jeans soon. I can't be seen in public with that saggy a$$."
I knew my jeans were big. I mean, I have to roll up the cuffs about 4 inches and wear a belt, but I didn't quite realize that they were the equivalent of "denim clown pants"
I headed to Value Village and picked up two pairs of size 24, which makes me down from a 28/30.

I'm deffinately going to start a "new wardrobe" money jar so that I can start saving for what's to come.

I LIVED in Goodwill my first year post-op. Half price day...HEYYYY!
I'm sorry but I see no merit in bad fashion on the grounds of quickly changing clothing sizes. Learn to belt, learn to bargain shop, learn to SOMETHING! (Sorry for the soap box moment)
Anyhoo..cool thing about buying Thrift. Get stuff in really good condition and then re-donate it when you shrink out of it. Here's how that can work FOR you:
Nik buys a nice pair of slacks on half price day at the thrift store for $3 (about what they cost at mine).
Nik shrinks out of pants and donates them to a 501(c)(3) charity like Goodwill or Salvation Army and collects a receipt.
Nik claims that donation on her taxes and the government credits her $5 for that donation.
Nik just made $1.50 off of shrinking out of her clothes.
I did this throughout my losing phase and it really helped at tax time.
I've been the same size for a few years now though so my Goodwill Glory days have slowed down!

I did absolutely the same thing. I can spot a pair of Talbot's, Land's End, etc from a rack away. I pull all the 'good stuff', at the end of the aisle I inspect for stains, buttons, zippers. Anything that makes the cut goes into the dressing room with me. I have pants from Goodwill that I bought for $5 that I have been wearing for 2 years now, they are still like new. AND I get compliments on one pair every time I wear them. They are super flattering.
I have even bought a few 'duds', but I just donate them back and take the tax break. I also donated a bunch of bigger stuff that I had not bought at Goodwill.
Watch your brand names, I will not buy a Walmart, Target, Kohl's brand used at Goodwill when I can get new for almost the same price.
