Getting back on track with vitamins

Each patient will have somewhat different amounts of D their body needs. Ideally, you'd want to have labs at 80-90.  I did the "D dance" for 5 years after my surgery. Had an 8 for D labs 3 weeks post op. Went on script D, 50K IU once a week, but they did virtually nothing. Since they're in oil, they don't absorb well. My labs went up to only 14 after 26 weeks of one of these per week. I began taking a daily liquid with 600 IU dry D3.  In 6 weeks, my D was at a 33.  I then began taking 3 of the 50K IU per week. Test one year later put me at a 44.  Then I took 4 of the same 50K IU per week for almost 2 years. Labs went to a 65.  A year ago, I finally went to one of the 50 K IU per day.  After 12 months my labs were at a 104.  My bariatric doc was happy with that number though.  Some post ops can have labs at 80+ on 3 of the 50 K IU per week or even less. Always get a printed copy of your labs for comparison when you are adjusting your vitamin intake. DAVE
