Spicy food

I made "my" chili for the first time since surgery.  I figured out the recipe on myfitnesspal and it's 150 cals, 17 g protein for a 1/2 cup serving, so I was happy happy.  But I haven't made it in so long I kind of forgot my seasoning proportions, and wound up with VERY spicy chili.  Hubby loved it and it tasted good to me, but geez is it sitting on me heavy and weird.  Made me wonder, how does everyone make out with spicy food?

Oh good.  So maybe as I get further out from surgery I'll do better with the spice.  I love love love spicy food, so I was hoping I wouldn't have to give it up!

I love spicy food !! I loved it before and I can't get enough now. Do you make it with hamburger? I found that when I made it with burger it sat very heavy and I didn't like it as well. But when I made mostly with beans like kidney and pinto it sat much better !!

I used hamburger & kidney beans.  I've done really well with hamburger, so I don't expect that's it.

I'm currently 5 weeks out so I haven't had anything spicey yet, but I wonder of all those who say they love spicy, did you have problems with it before surgery? Thanks

It's super easy and not fancy.  1 46 oz. can of tomato juice (I use Sacramento brand), 2 cans of kidney beans (rinsed), 2 lbs. of 93% lean hamburger, chili powder to taste & crushed red pepper flakes to taste.  Brown the burger in a pot.  When it's cooked, add the tomato juice, beans, chili powder & crushed red pepper.  Cook it for anywhere from 1 hour to 3 - the longer you cook it the thicker it will get.  It will make about 15 1/2 cup servings.
