Today ismy first full day home. My doctor said I could have pureed foods at home. I have been drinking 3 ounces of protein shake for breakfast....am I suppose to do that? or am I suppose to sip the protein through out the day and eat something for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Did you not get a nutritional plan from your surgeon`s office or the nutritionist??  It should tell you what, how much, and when you should be eating.  It should tell you how much fluids you should be having too.

Protein shakes are liquid, puree is not. You should be eating something else. Call your surgery team, PCP or Nut and get a list. More and more folks are being sent home like this now days it seems.

You should call the nutritionist or surgeon's office. DId they give you any paperwork specifying your new meal plan?

At three days out I was allowed to have clear liquids. Then full liquids from days 4-14, then purees until 30 days. So I would probably just drink your protein shakes for the weekend call your doctor on monday.

Well, my guess is since it's Saturday if you tried to call your Weight Loss team, they aren't
there.  So.....to get you through the weekend until you can call them.  This is what I had.

I pureed lots of Wendy's chili.  I pureed tuna fish, cottage cheese, refried beans.  You can
really puree about most anything.  I'm kind of boring, so I stuck with the above mentioned
items.

Hi mich,

You'll find that there is no consistency in doctor recommendations. If your doctor didn't send you home with a plan, I'd call the aftercare number they gave you, and ask for it to be e-mailed to you.

As an FYI my 1st week plan was as follows:

Broth (the salt in the broth can help your body hold on to fluid better)

Sugar-free fruit drinks

Sugar-free popsicles and sugar-free Italian ice

Water, decaffeinated tea, decaffeinated coffee

Diluted fruit juice (maximum of 4 ounces juice per day, diluted with 4 ounces water)

1% or skim milk

Protein supplements (please see approved list)

Sugar-free sherbet

Low-fat/light yogurt ( fat-free plain Greek yogurt is preferred)

Fat-free cottage cheese (no fruit added)

Fat-free ricotta cheese

Sugar-free gelatin (ie diet Jell-o®)

Sugar-free, low fat pudding

Goals:

60-80 grams of protein per day (at least 3 high protein supplements per day).

48-64 ounces (oz) of fluid per day (including protein drinks).

Keep a food log recording ounces of fluid and grams of protein eaten.

I was on clear liquids the first week. But if your doctor is telling you to start pureed then you can have:

refried beans
cottage cheese
ricotta cheese with pasta sauce ( no chuncks)
Wendy's Chili put through a blender
sf pudding
yogurt
you can also have liquids since they are thinner than pureed.

Protein drinks are good early out because you have so little room in your pouch that it really helps you get your protein in.

I managed by combining protein with my drinks. This way I killed two birds with one stone. I typically had protein shakes, and added plain protein to broth. In between I'd sip warm tea, water and eat sf jello.

Lots of people like the Unjury Chicken soup (21 gr protein). You can buy it in single packets, so you don't have to spend a lot of money trying it out.

I had and still have til this day a protein shake for breakfast. 8-12 oz I could get down in about an hour. I can get it down now in about 15 minutes.

Then I had pureed meat for lunch and dinner. I added broth to the chicken when I pureed it to make it nice and moist. The steak I pureed was just right off the grill and it set well. You just need to blend it away to mushiness.
