We will get to the bottom of this!!! But I'm scared....
So, I went to the doctor to try and find out why I keep getting dizzy. He thought my BP is too low. But it came out fine today. Then again, I wasn't dizzy today. We ruled out an inner ear problem and he said my heart sounds fine (yay!) So he figured I'm not eating enough. Which I've read on here too. He wants me to eat 5-6 times a day and he wants me to eat carbs. In the meantime, he wants me to check my blood sugar when I'm feeling dizzy and my blood pressure. I'm waiting for a call back from the baritric department to see what they say too. I don't know how to eat 5-6 times a day though. I've been on a 3-times-a-day only plan and protien only. He recommended granola bars, but I don't even know where to start.
To be honest, I'm scared. I've worked really hard to lose all this weight. I don't want to start gaining. I don't want to eat 5-6 times a day because I'm scared I will start to gain. When will I have time to drink water if I'm always eating? I feel lost and confused for the first time since I've had this surgery. Ive been losing with my plan, and I'm afraid that of I alter it I will stop losing. I haven't really had carbs since surgery. The only thing I will eat that has carbs is popcorn. I had a chip once. Half a cookie at one point. But that is it. I don't think I obssess over what I eat, I just stick to the same foods. But right now, It's all I can think about. What am I supposed to eat now?!
I feel like I'm going nuts because for the first time I don't have an answer. And I'm not sure who I should listen to. My doctor, or my NUT.

Did he give you any guideline as to what type of carbs he wants you to eat aside from granola bars? Granola bars, to me, are sugar filled and not good for keeping your blood sugar steady over a stretch.
There are lots of carbs out there that are good choices. I'm thinking beans and the carbs that occur in yogurt and dairy, but that doesn't really reassure you, I know. It's scary as a post op to think of eating MORE, because we associate that with weight gain.
Maybe you can work your way up to eating 5-6 times a day. You can start by adding a small morning or afternoon snack, and see how you feel. I eat 5-6 times a day and I eat roughly the same amount at every meal.
I hope some others will chime in on this. I usually eat under 55 grams of carbs a day, but I know there are plenty of other folks on here who don't count carbs, only protein, and they have been very sucessful.

As long as the carbs are high fiber and low fat you will still lose weight. Eating 5 or 6 times a day may even speed up your metabolism if the meals are small and low fat. Your overall health is the most important thing. You will experiment and find what works best for you. Good luck

maybe listen to both... do a little from each.. eat a little more and alter what you eat a bit and see how that makes you feel. I understand your nerviousness about gaining but I don't think have "some" carbs will make you gain back your weight. You are very aware of this and just keep an eye on things... you can't walk around dizzy all the time so you need to figure it out... good luck and I hope it's something simple and with some minor tweaking you will feel better....
So this came from your regular doctor and not surgeon, right? I'd wait to make any changes until you can speak with the bariatric doctor and then compare notes between them. I am having dizzy spells and my doc suggested I was getting dehydrated so perhaps that's something you could think about as well. Also, I am having episodes of low bp.
I think that your fears about changing your eating plan are valid. I also think that the fact you are concerned will help you stay on track even if you do add carbs and eat more frequently. I can defintely see the benefit to 6 small meals a day vs. 3 regular (for us) meals to your blood sugar, but I'm not sure if you really need to add empty carbs to help you. Complex high protein carbs like beans and dairy would be good, but it doesn't sound like that's what your doctor recommended.
Good luck and try to relax. Your title is right, you will get to the bottom of this!

My surgeon's plan calls for 6 meals a day, which most of the time I manage, but not always. I eat about every 2-1/2 hours to 3-1/2 hours. Here's a typical day for me...
B - 2 eggs with a tablespoon of bacon bits
S - Handful of cashews
L - Lean deli ham rollup with a slice of low fat cheese and some green beans with bacon bits
S - Protein butterscotch pudding
D - 3/4 cup homemade chili
S - NSA Fudgesicle
That puts me at approximately 1200 calories per day, 90 grams of protein & 85 grams of carbs.
My surgeon's plan at 6 months calls for 1200 calories per day, 60 - 100 grams of protein, 135 grams of carbs. So, I'm a little low on carbs, but the way I've been eating is working for me.
I have a bad knee so I don't get much more than some walking exercise and I also do the Canadian Air Force 12 minute work out.
As of today I have lost 126 pounds and 52 total inches.
There's plenty of time in between eating to get your fluids in, I drink between 48 and 64 ounces a day with no problem.
Just make sure your carbs are complex, not simple. Good luck to you!

No real advice, just a supportive hug for you.
Generally, with dizziness, I'd think: blood pressure (if it's positional especially - like after lying down), blood sugar, inner ear stuff or some kind of vertigo (my brother-in-law has this).
All the best to you!
O and interesting to hear about the 1200 cals at 6 months. I'm 8 months out, down 124lbs, and barely hit 800-900 cals, 80-90g protein. Really good to know the differences in our plans!
