Preparing for RNY on short notice?
Checklist:
- deboob baby
- schedule upper GI - it's a really easy test, just an x-ray while you drink some chalky barium
- buy protein shake samples - carnation instant breakfast doesn't have much protein and has more sugar than a good protein shake. You can get samples of good protein shakes at vitalady.com. Get a variety so you can see what you like.
- buy vitamins - you need a multi, calcium citrate, iron and sublingual B12 OR a prescription for B12 shots OR the B12 nasal spray
- find out what your doc's meal plan is for both a pre-op diet and the first couple weeks after surgery, and buy that stuff
- make arrangements for someone to help with the kids for the first week or so after surgery

GNC and Vitamin Shoppe carry many protein shakes and even Walmart carries a few. You can get a much wider variety online, though. And I would buy samples of something before buying a big tub of it in case you don't like it.
Some are pretty gross, some are really yummy. It partially depends on how you make them. My favorite is Syntrax Nectar cappuccino and I think it's pretty gross if I just mix it with water, but mixed with milk with a bit of instant decaf coffee, splenda and a splash of sugar free syrup (like amarretto or English toffee), it tastes like an expensive latte from Starbucks or something.

Hi...
i just started my 1st day of my 2 week pre -op today...purchased powder from gnc store but you can also get (pure protein 100% whey protein from your local walmart) I made a shake with the isopure zero carb...2 scoops has 50 grams of protein..but i only used one scoop plus 6 oz of Mootopia milk which has 12 grams of protein and 6 oz of ice...I must say that the taste was nice not bitter or gritty has i have heard some other say. I will try my isopure ready to drink protein for lunch...1/2 bottle it has 40grams of protein per bottle.

I would skip the carnation IB as well.. Also, go to the library or amazon. Take a look at Weight Loss Surgery for dummies.. It's a pretty handy resource if your bariatric team isn't giving you their plan on paper. Mine was excellent. Books, handouts, meetings ect.. You might want to call and ask them if they have those things available. Good luck deboobing the munchkin..
