Waiting For Surgery Approval & Questions
Okay, just going to ask some questions and hope to get some answers from all of you nice ladies & gents.
I am going to start out by saying I am 5'4 and I weigh 243lbs. That puts me at a BMI of 41.7. At my first doctor's visit he said he didn't see why I wouldn't be a wonderful candidate for surgery. I just have to lose 13lbs, and go through 6 months with my dietitian, and take some tests to make sure everything is functioning properly. So my questions are these:
-If all tests come back normal do you think I'll get approved by my insurance company?
-Has anyone ever been denied? If so why?
-Has anyone started out at the same weight as I am, if so how is your progress?
-How is everyones progress (starting weight/current weight)?
-Waiting time for insurance company?
-Tips for losing the 13lbs! :(
Oh & inspiration pictures would be awesome :)
I hate to tell you but my ins approved me in 1 day. Not all do though as you know, it takes some much longer. I had to lose 25 pounds and lost 30 to be safe. I went through an ins required nutrition class for 6 months. Ins companies are different so it is hard to say if they will approve, it has so many different requirements and you must meet them all. People have been denied, I saw someone on here last week say they had....doesnt mean you will be. I dont know why they were denied but you can research their post under the search tab at the top of the page. My weight was 315 surgery day lost 15 pounds the first week and a total of 50 since surgery but 83 from highest weight. We are all different so you may lose faster than me and others. I am 9 weeks out btw. As for the 13 pounds....I cut out simple sugars, ate low carb foods, no soda not even diet, drank gobs of water, drank protein shakes, ate lean meats and veggies. I exercised by walking because it was all I could do at 346 pounds. I'll tell you that the 30 pounds came off faster than I imagined it would. Keep your eye on the prize and it will all fall into place. Praying for you. Hang in there.
You have the same doctor I have. And I'm having sugery on the 12th. I'm also 5'4 but 257. I started out there at 249 but gained weight when having my gallbladder taken out. What insurance do you have? I have BCBS. Why do you need to lose weight? I didn't have to, just maintain my weight even though I gained I got my date and start the liquid diet tomorrow. And tips for losing, I would start working out and watch your cal intake.
- -Every insurance company and their requirements are different. Your Drs office probably knows the answer to this question.
- -We are VERY similar is starting height and weight.
- -My stats are below in my signature line :)
- -Approved in 2 days.
- -I followed the post op diet plan and lost 40 lbs. It was good practice for what was coming and really help me lose the weight. My surgeon also required the 5% loss, but I didn't have the 6 month requirement.
