Cheaters?
I had a job where I was in my car traveling all day the when I had gastric bypass and for 4 years after. It was not always possible to pack a snack because I was on the road and busy! along with a full time job, family, kid,, other life stuff!
So It annoys me when people "demonize" fast food like the devil himself fried it up in a sneaky attempt to ruin you. It is all about making good choices! Anyone can make bad food decisions at home too for example: Eating the Mac n cheese you made the kids for lunch, licking the knife you made their PB&J with, the list can go on.
This is really about Change, Pre Op when I would go to eat "fast food" my typical order would be: Large cheese burger, large fries, large drink.
But after changes and sticking to plan even though I was busy and didn't always have time to pack "homemade" meals this is honestly what I get when I eat fast food now:
I ate fast food for lunch most days when I did my traveling job. It is not impossible to make reasonable choices while eating out
and Chick Fil a was on of my favorite places!
I would get the deluxe grilled filet w/o mayo toss the bun and eat it like that (where else can you get an awesome protein packed super convenient meal like that?) cuz McDonald's grilled chicken sandwiches are awful!
I would also go to Taco Bell I would get a fresco chicken soft taco and a pintos and cheese, dump the taco filling into the pintos and cheese, toss the tortilla and have a awesome chicken bean bowl thing just the right size for a post op
I would eat Wendy's and get chili mostly, but they have a really good side salad for $1 eat it without dressing and get a 5 piece icken nugget to go with it.
And if I was in the boon docks or it was after hours my other favorite meal was a bag of Jack Link's beef jerky and a cheese stick from the gas station! (truthfully that was one of my favorite meals on the go)
Not all of us have to luxury of preparing our meals at home, call it bad time management, planning, whatever but that is REALITY!
Fast food can be your friend, you just have to stick to plan no matter if you are at home eating a meal or sitting at the drive thru.
Best Wishes to you!!!!

I agree that not everyone cooks or plans, I do neither, ever really. I stay at goal by being careful with how much I eat, not where it comes from. I love greek yogurt and fresh fruit and eat that a lot, but yesterday after the storm with all the running around we did I ate all our meals out even though my good food was sitting home. Subway was my dinner, nuts were my snack.
I make bad choices at times as well..it will happen BUT the best thing you can do for yourself is plan ahead. My best choice days are days that Im working...WHY? Because I know that I pack the same stuff every day I work....protein shake for breakfast, yogurt for lunch, laughing cow cheese wedge and a handful of nuts and dried fruit for a snack...and I always have an extra protein bar if I absolutely need it. I also make sure to have easy to make protein at home with a veggie cause I know im lazy at the end of the day. Figure out what works for you and make sure you have easy to grab stuff to take with you.
I get what everyone is saying and now that you know better, you can do better. Should you spend time beating yourself up over a poor choice? No, it is likely your pouch told you all about it (mine usually does). Focus your energy experimenting with food options that will work for you and your lifestyle. String cheese, hard-boiled eggs, protein bars, dried fruit/nuts are all excellent suggestions. I see where you mentioned salads are a favorite. I like them too. One of my favorites is Balela (http://allrecipes.com/recipe/balela-salad/) because it uses fresh produce but also has protein from the beans.
Was it grilled or fried, and did you eat the bun?
If you do grilled and skip the bun you're not doing too badly. But did you know Chik-Fil-A has a grilled chicken nugget kid's meal? You can get 4 or 6 nuggets. Then the bread isn't there to even tempt you. If you get fries and a drink give them to someone else. Or for an upcharge you can get fruit salad instead of fries.
