So, my husband screwed up and didn't fill out an online questionnaire for our insurance company and we were moved to a different rate plan which is a higher deductible x4 plus 10% less coverage.  There goes my surgery.  All for a stupid form that should have been filled out by yesterday.  A whopping 14 hrs ago.

Is there any reason that you can't call the insurance company and explain the situation to them?

I did already, they don't care.  Just kept saying over and over again that the form was due yesterday.  It is hopeless.

Supervisor?  Supervisor's supervisor?  Maybe they'll grant an extension because of Sandy?

Awww... that really stinks! I would keep calling back and trying to find someone who will help you. Good luck.

So either go self-pay or wait until open enrollment and change plans. Seems to be your only choices.

Self pay is obviously not an option if I can't do the higher deductible.  At this point, there is no fixing it.  I knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up about it to begin with.

Everything will work out--even though it feels terrible right now, just remember: "This too shall pass". Positive thinking positive results!

Don't take a "no" from someone who obviously can't tell you "yes"!  Ask for a supervisor who supervises the supervisors.  I would not give up so easily!  I know it can be disappointing, but please keep trying....there has to be an appeals process.

Did your husband know how important this surgery is to you?  I just can't understand how he could "Forget" to take care of something so important with your upcoming procedure...  passive aggressive maybe?  Sorry, but I am with you, I would be furious too... not really upset with the insurance company, but with the hubby.  We have Highmark BC/BS and we also had to do a questionnaire and selections by 10-31-12.  I bet we got 10 reminders from them over the last 30 days... I work in the medical Insurance field and it is not just a rule from your insurance company, but all the "Underwriters" and many people higher up are the ones that set the deadlines..... Just my opinion, but don't give up... you may have to wait until open enrollment, but use this time to lose whatever you can... stay positive, we are all here for you !
