OHHH! That is another thought that hadn't crossed my mind! Boy you OH'ers are really smart.   Well I guess I had better wait for a decision...Question for you: Is your husband getting the removal and RNY done at same time or is he doing them separately?

RNY on 02/27/13

Our dr does it as a two process procedure. He takes out the band and then 2-4 weeks later you have the bypass. That gives time for any irritations from the band to heal and for him to see how the liver and scar tissue is. He said that many doctors are moving to two surgeries instead of one based on some new research that patients heal faster if it is done seperately.

He had his band out 11/5 and is having RNY on Monday, 11/19. I am getting my band out Monday, 11/19 and hoping to have RNY (if it is approved) by the end of December or beginning of January! :)

RNY on 12/12/12

Had my Band for three years and it didn't go well. I had my first appointment with my new surgeon on August 28th. They did all my paper work to submit for a revision ( I have BCBS of Georgia) My plan didnt require anything to be wrong with the band. I think the lady told me that you had to have at lease 2 years of unsuccessful weight loss with it, and documentation showing that you had been trying ( which was the trips for fills and stuff with the bad) About 12 days later I was approved for my revision. I got my band out on October 9th. Everything went well thankfully! My date for my RNY is December 12th. Good luck with everything! the band was nothing but heartbreak for me. I am so happy I finally got the courage to get a new surgeon ( my band surgeon was awful) and to get the band out and start the revision process. I kept trying and trying and starting over with my band but it didnt work for me and I never felt restriction. Im glad I didn't continue to try and got the ball rolling with the RNY. Your on the right track!

Wow, your story and mine sounds very similar... I never quite had this restriction that everyone was talking about.... I waited 6 years because I didn't want to go to my original surgeon who is 45 minutes away and there wasn't a surgeon in my city that did them.. But here I am 6 years later and ready to give it a try, just wish I'd started sooner! So, how was recovery for ur lap band removal? Thx for sharing ur story and for the well wishes, good luck to u with ur bypass!

RNY on 12/12/12

Recovery with removing my band was a piece of cake. He got it out in 20 minutes so I wasnt under very long so the breathing afterwards was much easier. I got to leave the same day. I was sore for about 4 days and he cut in the same spot as where the other surgeon put it in so now my scar is really funky looking and all raised up. My surgeon does it in a two part process. He wanted to let any issue with the band heal before he does the RNY. Im just really nervous after not losing with the band im so scared this wont work and I dont think I could emotionaly handle failing at 2 weight loss surgeries! one is hard enough. But my new surgeon keeps assuring me that im going to lose and that he really thinks this is going to work. He told me at my last appointment that by week six after having my bypass he thinks I will have lost at least 50 pounds! thats more than I lost in 3 years with the band. ( I lost 35 with band but gained it all back) Keep me updated! I knows how this all feels trust me. I will be praying for you and hope you can get the revison.

Wow, thx Amber...I hope we can stay in touch and I will be following your progress. I see you are experiencing a lot of the same thoughts that I am: what if this doesn't work for me? What if I lose and gain it back? *sigh, the list goes on....yeah, plz pray for me and I'll do the same....
