An ulcer is essentially a sore on the inside of your stomach and/or intestines. They are typically treated with a combination of antibiotics and antacids. If it is severe enough to cause a hole or tear, surgery is required.

Ulcers are frequently caused by too much acid, NSAIDs and other things. Smoking increases your risk of developing an ulcer. It should go without saying that smoking is foolish post op. Not only can it increase your risk of ulcers, but it can and often does, change your body's metabolism. You know, other than the multitude of crap smoking causes.
