Gabopentin/Neurontin after RNY?

Hello,

I take Neurontin for severe TMJ pain. The medicine has been a miracle drug for my pain. While I only take 200 mg. a day, I am worried that after the RNY surgery I will no longer be able to take this medication.

Has anyone been able to continue taking this medication even as a post op patient ?

Ask your doc or pharmacist ASAP. Another good one is Lyrica

Thats a very good question. I was prescribed this for my lower back but my dose is 400mg twice yours. I am gonna call my dr tomorrow to figure this one out as well. I did not even think to ask this one.

Unless you have a sensitivity to gabapentin I can't think of a reason you'd be unable to take it.   It isn't a NSAID as far as I am aware, I take 3600mg total daily and have been taking it since surgery almost 2 years ago (and for years before that too).   You may have to have the dosage adjusted a bit, I didn't, but it's probably one of those individual things.  it still works fine for me with no side effects.

I take it without any problem.  My dose stayed the same as prior to surgery.

I will say I have had some weird pain in my legs that my  surgeon said it was normal and prescribed liquid gabopentin ...it's the only way I make it every day...
