Ulcer eating my pouch!
Hello everyone. I just wanted to post and share my story briefly and see if anyone has any advice.
I had an RNY on 4/23/10 and within 2 weeks had to have my gallbladder out and adhersions corrected. Since then it has been a constant battle to keep food down. First it started with the dialations (6) then it progressed to an intersucception, and then the ulcers began. Unable to control the ulcer from spreading via medications the surgeon performed a revision leaving 1/2 of the original pouch he created. Since then the ulcer has progressivily gotten worse and now covers the entire puch. I am scheduled on 1/8/13 for a reversal if possible (pending scar tissue situation) or a complete stomach removal. Oh, I also forgot to mention that 7/12 I had a truncal vagatomy at Duke University and YES my body is still producing acid and the doctors are baffled.
Anyone out there with any similar problems or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am very nervous as the doctor has stated that this is a very risky surgery and I am looking at a month - 3 month recovery with a feeding tube.
Thanks
Your post does not mention it, but I'd assume you've been on Prilosec, Nexium or a similar script to control acid? I know a few post ops who use Prilosec long range. I've meet one band patient, some sleeve and some RNY patients who use them several years post op. I'd consider a 2nd opinion at this point. DAVE

I started with Prilosec, changed to Nexium, then ended up in the hospital for 3 days with an ulcer. They did try Protonix with the Carafate 2x a day for 30 days and just changed me to Dexilant w/Carafate 2x a day. The Dexilant seems to be the first thing in a long time that is helping, only problem is the co-pay even after insurance is outrageous.
