Nothing going down in swallow test
Hey everyone, I had my RNY today and everything went well and I feel okay, however I had to do the swallow test and I watched it on the screen, and they said it wasn't going down like it was supposed too. So they made me wait 10 more minutes and do it again, and still nothing. And then 10 more minutes, and nothing again. The radiologist said that it could probably be an edema, which means it's really swollen. They want to try it again in the morning and my doctor prescribed me medicine for swelling. Has anyone else experienced this and know what might be going on? I'm just really nervous they might have to operate again. Thanks for any help or advice.

Exact same thing happened to me! During the first barium swallow test nothing went down. They didn't even ask me to try again. I ended up vomiting out what I had swallowed. The next day was a complete 180. I did the test and everything went down fine. It's amazing the difference a day makes. My surgeon assured me that what I was experiencing wasn't abnormal and that it might last more than a day or two. Luckily everything was corrected on its own the very next day. Be patient and try to stay calm. I'm sure you'll be be fine. Good luck.
