Thinking about puree/soft stage
So I know Im still in the hospital and cant keep down liquids but I am staying positive and thinking ahead ( technically according to my plan I am suppose to be starting them tomorrow but I don't think thats happening lol) Anyways I like things that are convenient and fast and tasty ( I will always love good food) I came up with a few different things and was wondering if they would be ok and if anyone else has some good ideas I might try also wanted to know if they were a good source of protien and if unflavored protien powder is really unflavored and if I could add it to these things. Alot of my ideas are pre made because for me it ends up being cheaper and yummier than if I spend tons buying all the ingrideants for it.
Chicken salad from kroger or chick fi la
Seafood salad from subway
Tuna salad from subway
Chili from wendys
Egg foo young?
I also thought of a few things I could make as well
Egg salad
refreid beans with salsa juice and greek yougurt ( got this from someone on here sounded yummy)
Split pea soup
quiche
I like potted meat as well
My mom also used to make this dish with deviled ham and cream cheese she would blend it together ( I was thinking I could use low fat cream cheese is cream cheese a good source of protien?
Also I love avacodos usually I cut them in pieces and sprinkle salt on them and dip them in ranch I was thinking I could mash them and dip them in a low fat dressing
Obviously I want to alter these recipes to make them healthier and reduce the calories in them. I am also the kind of person who can not stand eating the same thing over and over I get burnt out easily. Do these sound ok?
I'm still pre-op, so i wont be good for advice here, but I am also curious about some of the items on this list. Are pre-made salads (ie: chicken/tuna salad from Subway) a good option? I imagine the salt content is really high. I know we can only eat very little so maybe the salt wont be such an issue.
Thanks!
I personally, would not go for the pre-made foods, only because of the cost. I have always been frugal, but I like to cook also (my passion actually). But I can tell you this, in the long-run, you will be saving money by making your own food than buying pre-made stuff and you control what goes in it and what doesn't--like fats, sodium, flavorings, spices. Many pre-made foods will use chemicals, preservatives and sodium---all stuff that we really don't need. The only foods I'd buy pre-made would be things like s/f jello and s/f pudding. Even if you don't normally cook, you can always buy rotisserie chicken cooked at the grocery store and make your own chicken salad. Soups and chili were my main go-to puree foods and a great source of protein and veggies and they are easy to make. Yogurt, string cheese, refried beans and ricotta cheese are great too.
Don't jump the gun though and wait to find out what the docs say sweetie! Don't rush things and once you get cleared, take it slow!

I'd be hesitant early out to try too many pre-made foods. You don't really know how much fat or hidden sugar is in some of those foods. The rotisserie chicken idea is an excellent idea; buy some eggs and low fat mayo (and whatever else you may like) and mix up a quick chicken salad. Same idea with tuna salad. Eggs are cheap and you can boil some and then refrigerate for later use.
Be sure to check out eggface and Nik's WLS friendly food blogs. Lots of idea, many you can freeze into individual servings.
