Psych Eval today
on 12/20/12 3:35 am
My evaluation was an hour long session where the psychiatrist asked me a series of questions about my life, my upbringing, what I do for a living, what I do for fun, why I want the surgery, so on and so forth. Afterwards she did a one page write up on her "findings." I believe the general idea is to make sure you are of sound mind, that you understand what an undertaking WLS can be. I am sure it also to make sure you have no underlying mental or emotional problems that could be hindering your weight loss. It was an easy and nice conversation, definitely not stressful at all!
You can expect it to evaluate whether you are psychologically ready for WLS and the life after. It's not a test for you to pass or fail, it's a tool for the psychologist to see if you are ready and if not, what you need to do to be ready.
Trying to circumvent it is cheating yourself. Just tell the truth - it really is that simple!

reap what you can from this eval, and take it very seriously. You have to get your mind right before the weight loss begins, and it is the sole reason I have been able to keep it off after 3 and 1/2 yrs. Find out why you run to food, when you run to food, and make an effort to learn all you can about your coping skills, and adapting healthy one that will save your life.
