I am reading past "What take to the hospital" posts and several posts recommend either taking the heating pad or having it available for when you come home but no one says what you use it for. Don't mean to be stupid.....but what is it for?

I would think for wherever it help...back, stomach, etc. I didn't use a heating pad but I have a heated mattress pad and it felt great against the side of my abdomen when I would crawl in under the covers

My back hurt terribly after surgery. I was told that was common after spending time on a surgical table. I think I visited the chiropractor two or three times the week after I got home from the hospital...actually, it was probably after I started weaning off the pain meds, when I could actually start feeling it. :)

They fill you up with gas to make more room to work inside. That gas gets trapped under shoulder blades and such. The heat helps with that gas pain. The worst is laying down. I am 9 days post op and still sleep in a recliner. My doctor even recommended a heating pad for this gas pain, that and keep moving around. Now THAT part isn't so easy.

I used a heating pad on my abdomen on the left side for the first few weeks after surgery.  I didn't need it in the hospital.  I had lingering pain on the left side for about 6 weeks (not pain after the first 3 weeks, more like a like a 'stitch' after you run for too long or do too many situps).
