NEED fashion help, footless tights VS leggings, VS panty hose, VS humm what else is...

ok laides, I fell off the fashion band wagon oh so long ago acoording to my girls, they are 32 and 23...yes I have 3 grand kids ages, 12, 5 and 4.......

so before surgery I would buy what fit  and what I liked the best out of what fit....now I have oh so many choices...and finding the thrift stores and good will, I use to do garage sales for my kids and neices, but never found much in my size back then...

so I never really wore dresses of any kind, last time I wore a dress, I got married, and that was over 30 years ago...so now I have a couple of dresses, a long ankle length black one that has a matching shrug thngy..I really like it, I got it for just 6.00 at a thrift, I got a tank type style chocolate brown  not as long but not to the knee length t-shirt type of dress... I call it my hippy dress as it has some hippy looking embgrodiery around the neck, I was planning on wearing it with my tan hippy belt that ties with some leather strips that hang down after tying it....I got it for like 5.00 at good will

I also got a snow white skit that is ankle length and it has some type of lace doily type of trianlges in the front and back and on each side, and yes it is see thru, kinda of as it is pretty delicate lace doily type of stuff, but it is from just below crotch area to bottom of skirt in front, and in the back and then on each side..so it is a bit risky...but it is a white t-shirt type of feel to it..so kinda dressy but yet casual.. I got this skit for 3.00 at thrist store, I had gotten a couple of weeks later a T-shirt that is short sleeve that is yellow with white polka dots, I was going to wear that with the skirt for a dressy casual look...but what do you wear under this skirt??? it is a bit see thru, thru the lacy doily type of stuff...but not like porn star see thru...

I wont be wearing heels of any height as my knees kill me when I do, so flats is what i will be wearing...I have been going to dances at my local Moose lodge so I am having to dress up a little from what i use to....so for right now I have my 3 pairs shoes, 2 shoes and 1 pair of boots that i can dance is that allow the feet to slide...I may invest in some dance shoes, but they are like 100.00 a pair and i have other things to spend my money on hhah ah...

sorry for being so long....I dont know how to sit in a dress as I have alwasy wore pants, I wore the long black dress twice and the air was going up the dress. and I just felt not quite right as to how to sit in  a dress, plus being bare legged under the dresses, it is hot down here in sunny florida most of the time so nylons just dont seem right to me, so plus they are so tight around the toes and just plain hot...so do you think footless tights? do they fit and feel like panty hose? what about leggings, not sure what those are for adults.i had gotten some for my granddaughter, and the look like pants but skin tight...but in the adult section, they wont let you try them on and i dont want to buy with out trying on...

so any help getting back on the fashion band wagon would be helpful...I am 51 years grandmother likes to line dance, ballroom dance, but am redneck to the core...I like comfortable clothes, and shoes MUST be comfortable and be able to dance in and flat....

sorry this was so long, but hard to describe what i have...I also have a couple of very formal type of ball gowns, and they are very formal gowns, one is black with quite a bit of bling and kind of frilly lacy around the knee lenght, and one is a velvet floor length....they are in the back of the closet...

I am going to a Dean Martin dinner show next saturday, and kinda need to get dressed up a bit....it is at my local Moose Lodge..

Thanks ladies

I'm 55 here and I love leggings.  I get mine at Walmart for about $6 a pair and I have black, brown, gray and blue.  It does get cold here and I love to wear dresses but my legs are awful.  With leggings I can even wear short dresses.  I wear them with long dresses and skirts.  I found a pair of black leggings that are fleece lined and thick that I wear most of the time because they are so warm.  Also, because of the cold I pretty much live in my Uggs.  I have a pair of tall black Uggs and a classic pair of beige Uggs that are pretty ratty at this point but wearable.  The boots make it look like I am wearing tights but I have worn my leggings with other shoes, too, with no problem.  I am really too old to worry about what others think.  I go for comfort and I feel very comfortable wearing leggings.  I recently started working so it feels good to be able to wear dresses at work without worrying about my legs or if it is too short or whatever.

Thanks for the reply, did you find them in the panty hose aisle or in the pants area? my daughter was with me today and we were in the panty hose aisle and they had a pair of black, but the dressing room lady would not let me try them on, saying it is against policy...so i did not get them..but yet, buy them take them home and try them on and bring them back is not against the policy??

but these ones looked more like tights than the leggins I get for my granddaughter...its just mind boggling that I am  looking for some thing similar to what my granddaughter is wearing....

thanks for your reply

My Walmart has a cabinet for them in the clothing dept.  I actually get mine in the kid's dept because they are a little cheaper, lol.

I love leggings because you can wear big shirts and t shirts with them.  I also have worn them with regular shirts and sweaters but my daughter gets very upset when I do.  She doesn't like to see them used like pants.

i know at target they have them in the juniors department. there's usually a whole rack of them. i've seen them in walmart in a bunch of sections, i know they usually have the danceskin ones by the women's athletic wear.

yes it sure does..I cant even beleive I am thinking about wearing dresses and skirts..and I cant beleive I am admitting to saying I dont know how to sit in them...pants, you sit with ankle over knee, or ankles crosses or one leg bent under your and sitting on leg..or is that the redneck in me?? heck if i know..but sitting in a dress is just so mind boggling to me...but yet something so simple to every one else..

but at least I am trying to get back on the fashion band wagon..well kinda..maybe in the caboose area...

thanks

in a dress you can cross ankles or anything else that keeps your knees together lol. Look at how others sit. See what looks classy to you and practice it until it becomes natural.

I love my leggings and also got mine at Walmart. I wear then under short dresses and you could see how they look under that skirt if you take it in with you and try them on. Otherwise I go bare legged under my dresses I hate nylons

That's what I like about leggings.  I wear them like pants so I do everything in them that I do when I am wearing pants.  I don't have to worry about accidently giving anyone a show.  I also have nylons and tights but I don't like how they look or feel.  I will wear them in a more formal setting but fortunately my work is fairly casual and they don't mind the leggings.

My favorite outfit is my black leggings, a black sweater dress with a very shear, lacy dress over it.  I get a lot of compliments when I wear that.

See through white skirt = bare legs - make sure you have moisturised them well and and consider a tanner if your legs are white but make sure you have showered off the excess before you put on the white skirt!!!   If you wear sandals get a pedicure!!!

Woollen (sweater) tights or footless tights can be worn with short skirts and boots or bootees ...   Footless tights can maybe be worn with stripper heels, but I wouldn't ...  Otherwise they must be inside boots!

Leggings are NOT trousers and must have a top/sweater that comes to at least mid thigh ...

Hose are for formal skirts or dresses with closed toed shoes or boots - definitely no sandals!!!

I wear all of these and I'm 50 so age is no barrier kiss to any of these.

Remember the adage - just because you can doesn't mean you should!    Double check in the mirror before you leave - back and front and get someone to take a picture of you with your phone before you leave - you'll know if you look inappropriate!!!!
