Okay, so I know my nutritionist will tell me what to expect after my surgery. But who knows better than you all?! I am sure you all have some gruesome details to tell me that the surgeon may not want to. :p I want to know what I need to be prepared for, the good the bad & the ugly. I have done a lot of research on Gastric bypass but I mostly see success stories (which I LOVE BTW) but I didn't see a lot of "issues" until I came here. So if anyone wants to tell me about their experience such as:
-what you ate after surgery
-How much weight I should expect to lose right after (so I don't become discouraged)
-what kind of protein shakes are good?
-what was your calorie intake after surgery?

Or anything else you'd like to tell me (newbie)

*I LOVE reading all of your stories, it makes me so Happy to see results! To see you all working together as a team!

Thanks for reading!

Oh y'all can tell me your weightloss too if ya want.

My experience has been very pleasant and easy for the most part.  My foods after surgery were week 1, liquids only...week 2, puréed...week 3, soft foods...week 4, the start of solid proteins like fish, chicken, etc.  But your plan may be different than mine, so make sure you follow what your surgeons plan is.  I am 4 months out and can eat just about anything, still in small amounts, but my body hasn't rejected anything allowed in my plan thus far.

Weight loss...as far as wondering how much to expect to lose immediately, my answer would be NONE...and in reality and so that you are not thrown into shock, probably expect to GAIN a few lbs.  they are going to pump you full of liquids to make sure you don't dehydrate, and you will likely retain a lot of gas.  This could show your post op weight higher than your pre op weight anywhere from a couple of lbs to several lbs...DON'T panic...as your body starts healing, everything will fall into place.  Just make sure you follow your docs plan.

I don't have any input on protein shakes as I only ever used one from Walmart...I never used anything else to compare it too.  But I can tell you that it is very true that your taste will change after surgery.  I LOVED my protein shake pre surgery, then after, made the exact same way, it was only tolerable.  So I wouldn't weigh too much on how much you like it now as much as whether you like it after.

My weight loss is 75 lbs in 4.5 months...not bad i don't think.  Good luck to you!

Protein shakes after two weeks become tolerable at best.  Stock up on broths in the carton and u can add unflavored protein to it.  The first two weeks are hard, but you will get through them and get as much support as possible during that time.  Good luck to you!

My plan had me on liquid for for the month, nothing with a consistancy over applesauce or yogurt. NUT used the analogy "like feeding a baby".  I added protein powder to it all because I was unable to eat more than a 1/2 cup at a time.  I liked greek yogurt, Sugar free pudding and protein shakes using Almond Milk and various liquid SF syrups. At one month out I could add cheeses and Saltine Crackers.

I did not get a scale until I was 2 months out because I knew I would obsess. ( I still do) but I lost 45lbs the first 2 months out and averaged 2 lbs a week for about 5 months

I emphasize averaged because it would vary from 1-3 lbs depending on my activities. Try not to get discouraged.  Everyone is different. Besides any weight loss is a good weight loss.  Also be prepared for "stalls"  weeks where you do not loose anything.  These are normal and the stall can last up to and including a month.           I use Pure Protein Powder for my Shakes. Vanilla is my go to flavor. It is very accessable (walmart) inexpensive and I can flavor it anyway I want with SF Torani Syrups.  The only complication I experienced is CONSTIPATION.  It was and still can be HORRIBLE.  I still need to use MOM every other day just to keep things moving.    My calorie intake was about 600-700 calories for the first 3 months and rose up to approx 900-1000 now at 9 months out.  However my plan does not haveme counting calories at this point. I just know what it is because I use MyFitnessPal.com so I can track my protein intake. Lastly....and most importantly.  stick to your surgeons plan.  I am sure that you did a lot of research and are paying him/her a lot of money for their services  use them , you paid for it.   My montra is  "Success is a Journey, not a Destination."  Good Luck and check in often  there is a lot  of knowledable folks here that are ready and willing to offer support and advice that is very helpful.

I was sleepy from the anesthesia for awhile. Then I was on full liquids for three weeks. I got sick of protein drinks and had a roaring case of head hunger, but I made it.
Then I hung around the house for a couple of weeks and went back to work. I was hormonal and grouchy but my coworkers made it.
I lost about 30 pounds the first month.
Do not get too fixated on the scale. There are lots of things to celebrate, not just the scale numbers.
Good luck
