So today it has been 1 week since I went in to have exploratory surgery. For those that have been following my recent posts about having abdominal pains for 3 weeks & feeling nauseous when I eat & drink. They only found some adhesions & finally repaired my hiatal hernia & stitched it to my abdominal wall with mesh. They made 3 port holes & 12 smaller incisions for the stitching of the mesh. Recovering from this abdominal surgery has been by far the absolute worst. I've had a lot of surgeries in the past too but this one takes the cake. It was supposed to be an out patient surgery but ended up staying 2 nights in the hospital after they got my pain management & nausea under control. 2nd night I threw up 3 times large amounts of bile & had a couple of dry heave episodes. When I left the hospital last Thursday evening I had not passed gas or had a BM yet. Luckily Friday night I started passing gas & today I finally had my first BM. They sent me home with 30 Norco pills which were all gone by Sunday. I'm still in a lot of pain & trying to manage it through regular Tylenol & Tylenol PM. I sleep like an hour or 2 max then I'm awake again due to pain. I'm having a lot of pulling & burning pain on my left side right now. It is almost unbearable. I didn't call the Dr office today because I assumed they would be out for the holiday. I don't know if I'm just being a sissy & just need to suck up the pain or call them for more pain meds. I know pain meds are not good as far as going to the bathroom. I have enough issues with constipation. I've been applying a heating pad to those burning & pulling areas & it helps some for the moment that I have it applied. I just don't know what I should do. It's been a little difficult to eat too due to nothing tastes good at all to me right now. Hopefully that goes away real soon. I have been making myself at least drink protein shakes & drinking lots of water.

I'm enclosing a picture of me right after I came back from recovery.

I'm sorry.  You are definitely not looking too happy and neither would I.  You should definitely call your doc tomorrow and get some more pain meds.  Keep hydrated.  Have you tried warm drinks?

Thanks! Yeah, I've had broths & I was able to halfway tolerate cream of chicken soup, but really thats not the best thing for me to be eating. I figure as long as I get a few shakes in to keep my protein up for the day I should be good. Definitely drinking a lot of water.

Sorry you're having such a bad time of it. I would contact my pharmacy to have them request a refill of my meds, then I'd contact your surgeon/doctor and leave him/her a message to give them a heads up that the pharmacy will be contacting them about the refill. Good luck & I hope you feel better soon.

I had hernia surgery in Dec it was the worst pain I've ever felt! I've had lots of surgeries and 4 kids nothing compares to my recovery from the hernia. I had to go back to work at 6 days because I had no sick time left and I had to have someone drive me there and around because of the levels of lortab I was on. I too had to call in and ask for a refill. I didn't finish the second bottle though so keep your heads up it gets better. Call the pharmacy and ask them to call in a request for a refill and call the doctor in the am.

Geez. You are having an awful time. Do not hesitate to ask for more pain meds. When I had my gallbladder out, I ended up with a refill due to the pain. The surgeon thought I would be fine with Tylenol. I got his fellow on the phone snd he coughed up somerhing better.
I am not a fan of cream soup either. How about some hot herbal tea to stay hydrated?
Tske care snd get well soon
