How long should it take to eat?
So I went to my surgeon on Friday and he told I could move to pureed/soft foods he told me to try Tilapia. I am still having some issues with getting my liquids and proteins in due to my ulcer giving me some issues and a small pouch and possible narrowing. He said he wants to do another endoscopy on me but wants to wait until the beginning of march to do it in case he needs to dilate because he wants me to be more healed so he doesn't rip anything it open. So anyways all that to say that I tried some chicken salad yesterday I put it in my food processor first. My sheet says on the purred stage to have 4-6 tablespoons and to eat 5-6 meals a day. I got in about 3-4 table spoons of the chicken salad but over like an hour and a half. Tonight I had some tilapia about the same amount 3-4 table spoons in a little over an hour. I know some people have said on here that after 30 minutes they dont eat anymore but I feel that its important that I keep trying to get in the meals. my surgeon said it may start opening itself up on its own. So should I be stopping after 30 minutes or just take as long as I need. I have been on liquids for a month and a half so the trying food is a little scary and I have no clue how im going to get myself to eat 6 times a day.
It shouldn't take over an hour to eat three or four tablespoons. however, I can see how it might if you have a stricture. I'm not sure I understand why your surgeon wants to wait so long to do another dilation. What would be ripped open? Is that because of your ulcer?
I'm thinking right now what's important is that you're getting your protein in. I don't think it matters so much how you do that. If you spend all day eating or if you use protein shakes, or whatever works for you, get your protein in. You'll need protein to help you heal - we need lots of protein to repair tissue damage.
I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. I really hope things get better for you soon.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I don't think you have to worry about the 30 minute rule. YOu're trying to just get in enough protein at this point and get in some food your body can use. I wouldn't worry about the time of it until later. I had trouble with fish early on - it never got small enough and it clumped (or felt like it) in my stomach, I did better with softer foods that broke down more. If you have trouble with the fish try something with lots of protein but purees into almost a liquid. Hope you don't have to be dialated again - good luck.

Thanks for the replies yall! I havent been dialated yet at all. He did an endoscopy because I was having a hard time with liquids and keeping anything down thats what kept me in the hospital for 3 weeks. When he did the endoscopy he said that he found and ulcer and that he think it make be to narrow and that he might have to dialte. When I went to him Friday I told him I was getting in liquids but it was still rough and he said that he wanted to do another endoscopy to check on the ulcer and dialate if he needed to. He said if he dialates when its not completely healed it can tare open....tare open what im not sure....I will keep you updated! thanks for all the help yall give me
