Appointments
The nurse from my surgeons office called me this morning to set up my Group Nutritional Meeting (after I attend I get to set a date!) and my EGD!
I go to the Group Nutritional meeting this Monday and my EGD is on the 14th (Happy Valentines day lol) .
I'm pretty excited yet scared and nervous all bundled up into one. My questions and/or concerns are :
1) for the meeting on Monday- they emailed me some pretty deep questions to answer- will I have to discuss it all outloud with the others in the group?
2) How was your EGD? Does it hurt? This is what I'm most nervous about
I don't think they will expect you to answer very personal questions in a group setting, but email or call the office and ask.
As for the EGD, no, mine didn't hurt at all. One minute my surgeon (he is the one who did it) said good morning, then the nurse put something in my IV. Seemingly the next minute the nurse was waking me and offering me a drink of water. I was sleepy for a few hours afterward and hungry too, until I was able to go home and eat. But it was really nothing.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I fight badgers with spoons.

If they ask you to share anything in a group setting that you're not comfortable sharing with the group, just say that. Just say "I'm not comfortable sharing that with a whole group, but I'd be happy to discuss it one on one."
The EGD should hurt. You should be sedated well for it. I've had two and slept through both. I did have a slightly sore throat afterward, but not too bad.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
We did not have to discuss any personal information we did not want to during our group nutritional meeting and it was very informative.
As for the EGD, I have Barrett's Esophagus and therefore an EGD quite often. You will be well sedated and it turns out to be a good nap. Please don't worry about this. It is one of the easier medical procedures you will ever have done.
Hope this helps.
