What all should I do to prepare for plastic surgery? I mean, so that my insurance will cover it? What all has to be wrong with me in order for it to cover it?

My surgeon said that if you develope rashes and your skin hangs below the pubic bone then the insurance will probably cover it. He said to make sure I mention to my PCP that I am having rashes to get it documented.

You have to make a doctor appointment each time you have the rash, get the doctor to prescribe prescription creams for the rash, and keep records of those visits and prescriptions.  The more documentation the better.  You also need to visit a plastic surgeon who will take pictures of your hanging skin that you will submit to the insurance company along with your records of rashes.  The visit to the plastic surgeon can be close to when you are ready for surgery or you can start now.  There is usually a consultation fee that will not be covered by insurance.

The insurance will usually only pay for removing the apron of skin, but not for tightening the muscles underneath.  Most surgeons will agree to do the full tummytuck with muscle tightening by having you pay the cost above the panni removal that the insurance pays for.  The results are well worth what it will cost you.  Ask your weight loss surgeon's office for a recommendation of a plastic surgeon who works with weight loss surgery patients.
