I had to do the 6 month supervised diets in my GP for my insurance before gastric bypass. It has been over 3 weeks since my last weigh in. waiting to see what the decision will be is upsetting. My insurance still says that there has been no claim submitted. it is driving me nuts!!! I just want to set a date already.

Have you contacted your doctor about submitting your claim?  If the doctor has all your information, it shouldn't take three weeks to fax it to insurance.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I called my insurance this morning and was told that my doctor submitted a request for inpatient services on March 20. They have requested more clinic information then the director at bcbs medicare will give a decision. Fingers crossed!!

One of the things that I have learned so far in this process is that you need to take some ownership and drive it yourself.  My bariatric center has been great, and they have stayed on top of things, but I have also drove the process myself as well.  I have moved appointments and scheduled them faster than what they originally had for me.  I have followed up with the insurance company when they were submitting information and making sure on both ends that they have everything.  I have chased down info for them just so I know that it was done and done quickly.

Good luck, I just got my approval and know I am waiting to get my surgery date.

I've actually been in this battle since July 2012. I went to 2 different bariatric surgeons. The first one was not a center of excellence, so my insurance ruled that one out. That's when I had to get in touch with the one I am at now. I did all of my pre-op early on. My insurance required 6 month diet supervision and weigh ins. My final one was January 22. I will be calling my surgeon's office this morning though. I'm just growing impatient.

Patience... ha...not my strong suit either.

Patience isn't my stong suit, either. The process took me almost a year (well, that was once I got back on track with it)....The doc appts, dietician appts, surgeon appts, labs, EDG's, pysch appt, sleep studies, required weight loss prior to surgery, the stress tests, the swallow study, the meetings.....AUGH....It was alot that had to get done. I am glad that I did it all...it got my mind and body ready for the surgery. But I hated every minute of it, thinking that it was all going to be for nothing & what if the insurance company decided to not approve. I had CPAP, HBP, Anxiety, Acid Reflux, back and leg pain....PLUS I was 357lbs. They approved and 4 months later I was 100lbs lighter with no medications or CPAP. So just relax...I did however, call for the current status ALL THE TIME. You are worth it, so keep after them, keep asking the insurance company what's needed and then call the place you are going to & make sure they are on the ball (remember they probably have alot of patients....they may need your help)

I spoke with my insurance and with my surgeons office today. Everything has been submitted and now all I need is my authorization now. From what I know they are looking at Mar 20th  as my surgery date but its not set in stone until my authorization comes through.
