Hey everyone, I am starting my pre-op liquid diet soon and I was wondering if anyone could tell me any good ideas for protein shakes, like what are good kinds to buy. Unfortunately I don't have any health food stores around my area so my only place to shop is Wal*Mart. My next question is, are all protein shake mixes that expensive?! Or do they last awhile? I know the big containers we're $20 dollars... I am hoping they'll last at least a little while!

Thanks!

Pre-made mixes are generally more expensive, but can be handy to have around.  I shop for a lot of mine online, and try to get free shipping as much as possible.  A lot of people on this site use the body fortress brand available at WalMart, but you simply have to find out for yourself if it tastes good.  Vitalady sells different sample powdered protein, so you can try to find one you like.  Personally, I use a lot of muscle milk's powders....my faves are chocolate banana crunch, and protizyme's peanut butter.  As to how long they last, depends upon how many shakes a day you consume.  Good luck on your liquid diet...I had to do that too, and the first 4 days were tough, but after that was better, just remember, it will all be worth going through to get to the final goal=  the loser's bench!!

Finances are tight here and I simply cannot afford the more expensive protein powders,  so I use the Body Fortress which is okay but does not blend quite as smoothly as others.  I use the Whey Protein and it is $15.99 at WalMart.   I love the Walgreen brand and they frequently have it for buy one, get one 1/2 off which makes it the same price as the BF at WalMart.  I use Capella drops and frozen fruit as flavorings.

I buy the Pure Protein from Wal Mart. It's $19.95 for the big container but it last me about 2-3 weeks drinking 2 protein drinks a day. It's good in a blender with milk and a small amount of ice. I like the Chocolate better then the vanilla as a cold drink but I also like using the vanilla in my hot chocolate, it makes it taste creamier. You just have to be careful how you mix the hot chocolate, I normally blend the instant SF coca mix and really ho****er together then in another cup mix a few oz of cold water and the protein powder together till all the lumps are gone then I pour that mix into my hot cup. That keeps the protein powder from clumping up like it would if you just added it straight to the hot chocolate.

There is protein powder at Walmart called Body Fortress.  It is about the cheapest there is.  They have vanilla, chocolate, strawberry,  cookies and cream, chocolate peanut butter.  If they don't carry in the store you can find some at Walmart .com

Mix the protein in a cool/cold liquid to make a paste then it can be added to hot liquid like NSA hot chocolate or coffee.  Add sf syrup like Torani or Davinci which you can find at some grocery stores, some Sam's Clubs,  World Market.

I like vanilla powder,  hazelnut syrup and coffee the best.  Tastes like a latte.
