Is it cold water?  Try room temp or even slightly warm.

Try slightly warmer water.  You  might also want to try adding some crystal light (might have to have someone bring that in for you, the hospital might not have it).  You might also want to try warm peppermint tea (you'd need to have someone bring that for you, too, probably; it's caffeine free and sugar free).

Ask if you can try Gas-X (might need someone to bring you that, too).

Try sitting on the edge of the bed or in a chair.  Take a teeny tiny sip of water and sit still for a minute.  Then try rocking back and forth gently, like you were in a rocking chair.  That often helps with gas.

You can ask them for a heating pad for your belly, too.

Can you have Gas-X strips?  Ask the nurses about it.  I have taken some Gas-X strips but I didn't do it until I got home.  I hope you get some relief soon!

I couldn't really drink plain water for about 3 months post-op. I had to add something to it to make it drinkable.  Ask the nurse if you can have a crystal light drink...I know my hospital had them on hand. Or ask a family member to bring some in to add to the water.  I also added Cucumber to water, strawberries to water for a bit of a change and drank a lot of tea.  They could also bring you some tea! :)

My doc said it's quite normal that people can't drink plain water so don't stress and it does get better!

Have you tried eating/sucking on ice chips? That's what they started me on 30cc of ice chips then water this morning they gave me glucerna and increased fluids to 60cc/hr it's so gross I only got down about 120 today. But I keep eating/drinking ice/water.
The first few times I had water I got the hiccups right after.

I am also 1day post op and having the same feeling. Dr wants to me stay another night.

It hurts when I swallow either cold or room temperature liquids. I was able to finish off my jello from this morning just now but I guess the morphine helped.

It helped me to have my water ICE COLD. like almost frozen. And I walked almost my entire second day. I would sit for 10 minutes, walk for 10 minutes. It's the only way the gas wouldn't hurt my chest. It hurt my stomach to walk so much but that pain was nothing compared to the gas in my chest. It gets better!
