1 day post op...help?

I had THE most excruciating gas pains for a week after surgery.  I tried the Gas X strips but they didn't help at all and after 3 days I wasn't allowed any more pain medication (which didn't take away all the pain, but at least made it slightly more bearable).  I knew there was going to be pain involved but the gas pain (which I was told was the excess gas that wasn't fully removed after surgery....apparently they have to pump in gas to do the procedure) was really a shock!  I really feel for you, I had no relief until the gas just dissipated.  I was told walking helps get the gas out....I don't think it helped me, but who knows, maybe it would have been worse? Hang in there!!

If the other suggestions don't help, I bet you are swallowing air with your water.  I had to retrain myself to drink water.  I would have a mouth full of air and water when I swallowed, and I would get the worst pain.  Finally, I had to kind of purse my lips, and then blow out all the air in my mouth, then take in the water, then blow out excess air, then swallow.  That seemed to work.  Good luck!

I had the same problem. I had to drink room temp. water. Good luck! Walking will help get rid of the gas and make you feel better (just a little embarrassed while walking) but the nurses are used to it. LOL!
