Pre-workout suppliments

I attended the Arnold Classic this weekend, they give out tons of samples of whey and  pre and post workout drinks. I really don't know if the pre/post workout suppliments they are safe to take after RYN? Most have caffeine, which I usually avoid.

I work out 4-5 times per week, cardio and weights. Can I try any of these? What am I looking for, or looking to avoid?

For the first year I avoided supplements with Caffiene, after that I just used half. Watch the carbs, we DON'T need any carb loading and watch the sugars! (Be a label reader!)

Creatine, Glutamine, a Low/No sugar protein shake (smoothie) before hand is GREAT!  (I use GNC Gold Standard Whey that has like 60 mg protein. I make a small little 8 oz smoothie with 1/4 banana and add a sccop of Creatine.)  I make another 8 oz protein shake (Sans banana) after the work out with Glutamine.

If you don't like Caffeine you can try products that contain Nitri Oxide (Like Muscletech Nanostim, etc) but as always, please consult a physician! I didn't start some of the more "heavy duty" bodybuilding products until I was a year out. I don't do cardio but do a lot of weight lifting. (and no, I have no Manly build, but a very feminine and very defined body with very little loose skin.)

Good luck!

Warmly,

Jackie
