This time last Tuesday I was patiently waiting to go to the OR and today I am back home from Mexico, down 13 pounds from 7 days ago, getting all of my fluids in without issues and started protein today. The only reason I don't feel absolutely wonderful is that I caught a nasty cold and am a tad stuffed up and foggy feeling. Initially I thought the lack of energy was just post surgery/clear liqs related, but I think it was due to the nasty green crap draining from my sinuses.

Mexico was the right decision for me, as was Dr. Aceves. Everything was spotless, I've had great follow up with almost daily emails and am looking forward to continuing this journey. Actually, at this point, I am waiting for that first dreaded stall so I can get it out of the way. Maybe it won't happen next week like it does to so many, perhaps my activity helps. I have walked a minimum of a mie per day every day since Wednesday, 1 day postop.

wishing all my fellow end-of-Feb dates are doing well too.

Will you have follow up care here in the US if there are problems?  I know WLS surgeons won't see some patients that have gone out of the country if complications arise.  Even if your primary doctor sees you and you need to see a surgeon, hopefully you have one approved to see you.    Also, your first stall can be one of many.  There are no set rules on stalls.  That is why it's so important right now to utilize the first 5 and 6 months because this is when you will lose at the quickest rate.  After that you will slow down at 9 months and more at a year.  It doesn't mean you have stopped it just means you may only lose 4 or 5 pounds a month after that.  Don't get discouraged, just keep doing what you are suppose to do.  Get your water in is the most important. Use a water enhancer because many including myself couldn't gag down plain water.  You don't want to get dehydrated and have to go back to the hospital and get IV's.  Sf jello, popsicles and broth all count as a clear liquid.  Also use your spirometer.  It hurts to cough, but that is a good thing!

Karen, go easy on yourself.  you have a good attitude and this journey has hills and valleys and we have to go through them all.  Keep posting and continue to research as much as you can.  Take care!  Jane

Thanks for your reply Jane; I am confident with my after care plan. Mexico may not be the right choice for everyone and is a choice which should not be made lightly and I am aware of my risks. Many people on this board can't find aftercare because they have moved away from their surgeon and this is similar.

I luckily am not having any issues with fluids and am at well over 100 oz today, but I am sure your suggestions will be helpful for those who are. Not sure why you think I am discouraged when in fact, I am just the opposite. So far this has been much less stressful than I thought it would be.
Thanks for the kind words

I'm sorry Karen, I meant many Newbies get so discouraged after surgery about weight loss, not that you implied that and my advise to everyone now who just had surgery is to not to get discouraged because the weight will come off.  I have always felt you had a good attitude from your posts and I apologize if I gave the wrong impression.  I am so glad for you to have this surgery behind you so again, I need to be more specific when I write a reply.  Best wishes and keep up the good job!   Jane
