Oh I see. It still amazes me how different programs can be!! We got enough information in our pre-surgery dietician consultation to take us through the pre/op 2 week low calorie diet, what to expect in the hospital the first couple of days and exactly what to do/eat for the first 2 weeks post-op. A dietician checks in with you before discharge to make sure you understand your first day home (still clear fluids) and the first 2 weeks on full liquids. At our 2 week post-op visit they lay out the next 3 weeks of purée then another visit and 4 weeks on soft food then "regular" food. A very slow, structured, rigid, calculated reintroduction to food.

At first you will not fell full cause your nerves were cut, which is why they tell you to measure everything you eat. After you may start feeling it or you may have a tell. For me, my tell is that I'll start to burp or my nose will run. Sometimes I'll get the hiccups.

I have a certain feeling I get when I am almost "full" I stop then.

I am up to 4 tablespoons of protein per meal-3 meals a day, 2 protein shakes a day. No veggies yet. I can drink my veggies, though. I use low sodium V8 juice. I take 8 oz and add 1 scoop of my unflavored protein powder and it gives me 23 grams of protein and my veggies all in one.

Right after, I always felt full. But I would feel extra full, kind of like I overrate. Then I would not take one bite more, even if I had more food left.

I was instructed to try to stretch meals out so they would last 30 minutes. I use a timer to tell me to take a bite every 30 seconds. Also nit supposed to watch tv, read ir do anything but cincrntrate on the food. Excruciatingly boring. But I found it easier and easier to figure out what "full" felt like.

I'm only on day 11 post-op, but the full feeling keeps changing as I heal. Just have to be very aware of what I'm feeling while I eat. I don't eat more than the measured amount.
