I am 2 weeks post-op! I have been itching my incisions like crazy. ER doctor gave me zofran for my nausea and i developed huge circular red rashes on every incision.. well turns out i am having an allergic reaction to the glue or something they used so i was told to get benedryl. Also he said my mouth is red, irritated, and dry.. wasn't given any liquids though i have been struggling to get all liquids in but doing a bit better everyday. Has anyone had this problem with allergic reactions after surgery?

Sometime between pre surgery and after I became allergic to adhesive. I had no problem with the glue however the tape? that's another story. I even switched to bandaids at one point to no avail. I still can't use it to this day. My skin peeled off with the tape. Not just under the tape but a "sheet" of it under and around the tape. Now mind you I've used tape and bandaids for the past 43 years with no problem until now. Still don't know why.

I remember someone last summer post on here they had problems with the glue too. hang in there take the benedryl!

I developed rashes around all of my incisions 2 weeks post-op too. Steri strips were used but I had to take them off after only 5 days because I got huge blisters under them. My rashes lasted over a month - just now went away. It was crazy. I also developed hives all over my body for a week and benadryl would not get rid of it. I have no idea what caused it. You are the first person I have seen who had a similar reaction to me. My surgeon said she has never seen someone get rashes around incision before. I hope yours go away soon - definitely not fun!

Yes, I am allergic to adhesive.  I had to keep a g-tube for 6 weeks.  I was an itchy mess, living on benadryl, for those 6 weeks.  Hang in there...it gets better.

Yep. Got red itchy circles around each infusion, a crazy pattern if red itchy from surgical tape or something they had taped down. Plus a basic heat rash.
Horrible.
I took benedryl, then started using anti-itch cream (per my doctor).
I'm three weeks out and finally getting over the itchiness.

Surgery (RNY) scheduled for Feb 26, 2013

I am two weeks today as well.  I was told (yesterday by my dr and surgeon) that I was in the lucky 40% that get the itches.  They both said to get some hydrocortisone cream.  The dr said to put a thin layer on 3x a day...but she said leave the tube in the fridge so I get the natural cooling sensation.  That helped today.

They still itch.....but much more bearable.

Yes - I'm allergic to the tape they use. My skin actually blistered.  The Benadryl should help.  If the doc ok's it, hydrocortisone helps with the itching too.  I needed zofran too for about 10 days for nausea.  Good luck.  It will get better.
