My husband has done fine with his Roux-en -Y surgery and is 2 years out.  Just recently his back has been bother him very badly.  We have a friend who is 3 years out and she has back problems also.  Is this a trend?  Or just a coincidence?  Thanks?

I'm not a doctor so just offerring an opinion here...I figure I am going to have lots of aches and pains in my future. Not as many as if I was still 90 lbs heavier, but more than someone who has been this lower weight their whole life. Because for many years (for me, most of my life), I was hard on my body. I didn't treat it very well and I expected alot from it, mainly carrying around way more weight than it was created to carry. So I am sure, for me, that I did damage to my body during that time. Yes, I am healthier now and my body feels better - but I would bet there are parts of me that are strained forever. Just my two cents...maybe there is someone out there with an actual scientific answer for you. :)

Thank you Amy, that was very nice of you to respond.  We are kind of thinking the same thing--for years the back has dealt with this heavy person and now it has to readjust to the skinny person.  Thanks again!
