Internal Hernia Repair Questions

Last Friday I had an internal hernia repair and scar tissue removal.  At one week out I am having difficulty eating and still feel bloated and strange feelings in my stomach area.  Can someone please tell me this is normal for only being 1 week post op!!  I am so scared I have moved incorrectly or stretched wrong and have damaged my repair because I have never had a hernia repair and really don't know what to expect.

I have tried solid foods but they still make me feel too bad so I am doing liquids for now.

Anyone with hernia repair experience, or medical experience, your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

When I had a hernia repair, or any of the other surgeries I had on my abdomen, yes they caused some new issues with eating for a short time. The hernia repair was about two weeks till things went completely back to the way they were before.

Thanks for the reply.  I certainly don't want to go back in for additional repairs!

Dumb question... how do you get a hernia?

Different ways, but surgeon thinks mine came from weight loss/extra room in there where fat was lost.  I suppose it was my abdominal lining catching up in the opening that was created due to my weight loss.  He did not use mesh to correct the hernia; he was able to use remaining fat to cover over the opening.

(A hernia is protrusion of tissue through the wall of a body cavity in which it is normally contained, most often an opening or weakness in the muscular wall of the abdomen. )

He also stated they can be hereditary - abdominal weaknesses are genetic.  I think you can actually get them from heavy lifting and straining, too.
