frustrated with myself not eating or drinking enought
You acknowledge what the problem is-now you need to implement the solution by drinking fluids and getting in more proteins. You must take care of yourself. Drink a sip every few minutes or set a timer to drink a certain amount within 10 min. (i.e.) . You need to schedule your b,l, d, and snacks. You can do this. YOUR NEW BODY REQUIRES IT. GOOD LUCK!
Thanks I know I definitely need to work on it! Before surgery I would be eating all day it what occupied alot of my thoughts FOOD! Now I dont really feel hungry or think about it like I did before so it has been easy for me to just go through the day without eating much. I know its a problem and by posting on here and writing it down it makes me feel more accountable to myself. I am going to sit down after class tonight and try and schedule everything out. If thats what I have to to do then thats what I have to do! thanks for your encouragement and support!
Read this link: http://asmbs.org/2012/06/asmbs-integrated-health-nutritional -guidelines-for-the-surgical-weight-loss-patient/ from the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. It gives you their recommendations of supplementation for the various surgeries.
Of course, your labs will dictate how much and what you'll need to take. I suggest you get copies of your labs you had before surgery and copies of all after and put them in a spreadsheet to track trends. Most medical professionals it appears do not look for trends downward but deficiencies only and you can hopefully stop any possible deficiencies by supplementing as your labs dictate.

Viactiv is calcium carbonate and we can't absorb it due to a lack of stomach acid. I"m so sorry your doc is recommending it. we need calcium citrate. 1500 to 2000 mg of it, according to the ASMBS.
Most children's vitamins don't have all the nutrients we need, either. That's why the ASMBS recommends an adult multivitamin.
Are you taking iron and B12?
Headache and fatigue are common symptoms of dehydration. If you're only getting 20 oz of liquid a day, that's less than a third of what you need. But iron deficiency can also cause those symptoms.
Try making out a schedule for vitamins and drinking. You can set an alarm if remind you if you need to. Maybe try something like this:
Wake up - 8 oz liquid
Breakfast - take multi, 500 mg calcium citrate, B12, D3
Starting half hour after breakfast - 8 oz liquid
Lunch - take 500 mg calcium citrate
Starting half hour after lunch - 8 oz liquid
Mid-afternoon snack
Starting half hour after snack - 8 oz liquid
Dinner - take multi, 500 mg calcium citrate
Starting half hour after dinner - 8 oz liquid
Evening snack
Starting half hour after evening snack - 8 oz liquid
Bedtime - take iron
That's only 48 oz liquid, which isn't really enough, but it's a place to start.

Oh, I probably drink a gallon a day, easily. I'm thirsty all the time.

I have seen posts recently that said try drinking from a straw if it doesn't bother you. That has really helped me with getting more liquids in. I also found that warm liquids especially in the AM have helped me. The cold seems to be ok later in the day but mornings seemed to cause some discomfort. Just some little things that have helped me get the liquids in. Good Luck.
If you do not get enough nutrition in you, you are risking permanently screwing up your metabolism. Even if you do manage to get to goal this way, staying there will be impossible. Drink protein shakes if food does not interest you. Think of it like a job. Just do it.

So sorry you are having this problem! I can understand because now that I'm back at work-I am so busy that I have trouble focusing on fluids and eating. I definitely think it's a good idea to write out a plan the night before and like someone else said-treat it like a job. I am only about 5 weeks out so I still rely on my protein shakes a lot.
As for vitamins, I would definitely question your doctor about that. I take iron, calcium citrate (500 mg. 3x per day), vitamin D (10000 iu's), magnesium (400 mg), b12 sublingual (1000 mcg once a day), and a chewable multi-vitamin twice a day (Bariatric Advantage).
I bet you will see the scale move once you start eating and drinking more! Maybe it will rev up your metabolism!
Best of luck to you! :)
