My RNY was March 5th and i had my Dietician appt today.. while there i brought up the fact of bloating and hiccups i am having after fluids only i am getting full off of fluids. Anyway my PA was there that was in the room the day my surgery was done and she checked me out... when pushing down on my belly i am having a lot of tenderness and pain. I am getting heartburn type pain in my upper chest as well as sharp heartburn pain under the breast area. No vomiting or trouble swallowing though all though it's hard to cough a little harder i feel out of breath and just the bloating isn't helping anything. I have to do a enema sorry tmi and double up on my antacid so i am doing prevacid as well as nexium now. I just got a call and i have an appointment at the hospital on Monday April 8th for a barium swallow hoping this is just constipation but i don't know because i feel off... like getting full so quickly all of a sudden and off of fluids. I will also follow up with my surgeon's office on Wednesday of next week. I've been reading about strictures and i know they are a easy fix if that is the problem but i also haven't had vomiting and i have been able to swallow.

If you have had one what did it feel like?

I've had a stricture and the only thing I was uncomfortable with was the fact that I had to start over in the steps afterwards like liquid diet again then purée stage which I'm still on and I had the stricture taken care of 3 weeks ago.

What you're talking about doesn't sound like a stricture to me.  I had a stricture (3 weekspostop, that had to be dilated twice).  I couldn't eat anything and then I couldn't drink anything at all everything came right back up.  I felt nauseous at all times, it was so awful.

What you have described sounds more like an ulcer.  (BTW...I've had both a stricture and 2 ulcers).  Are you on protonics?  Have you talked to your surgeon about a possible ulcer?  Where is the pain centrally located?  It could be something completely different, but I really don't think it's a stricture.

Also, it could just be constipation.  Are you getting in all your liquids and avoiding caffeine?  Constipation can be really painful, and cause a LOT of discomfort.  Who wants to eat when you feel like that?

I certainly hope you feel better real soon!

No i haven't been getting in all of my fluids but i have been trying hard.. i usually do 16ish oz water, popsicles, and my protein shake which has like 12 oz fluid. Fluid hasn't been easy from the beginning. I just feel awful though and i get muscle pain and headaches as well. I know they will check for stricture but then i read everyone vomits with it and i haven't vomited. The pain is located in the center chest area up on and sharp pains on the right and left sides under the breast area... the bloating is under the breast area as well like the center... and i've been having even low abdominal cramping at times. This pain all just started like a week ago.My center upper belly feels like there is some weird heartburn in there too and sometimes i get heartburn when swallowing even water in both my upper chest and in upper belly.

Hoping either the way to upper GI solves the mystery cause i feel awful, Constipation is a possibility but i am using the enema's and going to do miralax as well and see if it helps any.. i do go but it's a tiny amount sorry tmi and every few days or so.

I know the fluids are hard, but you have to sip sip sip. When I had my stricture I was dehydrated, constipated, and feeling awful! I spent 5 days in the hospital. Don't allow yourself to become dehydrated. The more you drink, the easier it is to poop.  Again, I really doubt it's a stricture you have, possibly an ulcer or some bad acid reflux.....does your dr have you on anything for that?
