11 days post op and Protein shakes are making me sick!
on 4/5/13 2:01 pm - OH
I'm right there with you. the very thought makes me sick. I was only getting about 18 gms of protein a day, at first. I'm doing better now.
For me, I think it was the drinking of them 4 times a day, for two weeks pre-op. Plus I think there's a bit of taste changing post op.
Best Wishes to you, it looks like you've received some great suggestions.
A Couple things you can do,
next time copy the link header in the address bar of IE or whatever browser you are using and paste it in a text document or somewhere like so:
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4618125/11-days-post-op-and-Protein-shakes-are-making-me-sick/
or you can get back on this page (since you're probably looking at this response now) and "add to favorites" in IE or whatever browser
or you can look in your profile and since you posted in here, you can look at your previous posts
There are a 1000 ways to "skin a cat" so I'm sure others have other ideas that may be good too.
Hope this helps!!

I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt Barenaked Ladies - One Week
My issue was both, I wanted thin shakes, and nothing too sweet.
Max protein (GNC) worked better than the protein I liked prior to surgery (thinner). Like someone else mentioned, Nectar fuzzy navel helped as well, it is closer to juice and has some citric acid in it so not as sweet.
I also had to work up to a full scoop of max protein in 8 oz milk, I had to do 1/2 to start.
By my second week I was also having lowfat cream of...soup with lactaid to help with protein. If allowed on your plan, try some alternatives, as you already know protein is really important.
What do you dislike about them now?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I found a protein drink called Protein-to-go,, can be found at www.protientogo.com. my surgeon and nutritionist both were impressed by it. Neither had seen it before. It is all nautral fruit with protein. The size of a 5 hr energy but the best part besides the 3 different flavors (served the colder the better) has 28gms of protein!
I hope this helps you, as I too don't care much for the other protein drinks, I hate the texture worst.
hope this is a helpful option, although it can be a bit expensive, I found it on Groupon before my surgery 3/26/13. My Dr kept telling me I must find a protein source and bring in a sample before surgyer! I did and he approved it.
Good luck all
